Immigrant tuition

Why do we want to refight this battle?

It may not seem fair to allow undocumented immigrants in-state tuition, until you consider that many of them are children brought here by parents or adults with no say in the matter. And this:

"To qualify for the lower tuition rate, the undocumented students must have attended Kansas high school for at least three years, earned a diploma or equivalent certificate, and started the process of seeking citizenship status in the United States."

Isn't there room for some compassion and reason in the law?

Well then if the kids are old enough for college then they are also old enough to decide to be LEGAL citizens and begin the process of citizenship! Then and only then should they be given in state tuition. Otherwise the state should offer the discounted tuition to EVERY person who wishes to attended a university in this state. I SHOULD NOT have to continue to foot the bill for ILLLEGAL immigrants. That's why this issue should be revisited.

you seaton's are some no border type of people, huh? just another bunch of progressive liberal's who want the working man to subsidize your 'compassionate' idea's. I've got an idea, why don't you pay union wages to your staff, provide them with no cost health ins. purchased by you, and contribute all but 5% of their pensions?

Dang. Some people don't get it. What part of ILLEGAL don't you understand. If any person wants the benefits afforded to a LEGAL citizen then that person should go through the LEGAL means to attain the benefits or that person should try and get the LAW changed. But until the law changes an ILLEGAL immigrant should not be afforded the same benefits that a LEGAL citizen has. Especially if these benefits are paid for by taxes.

Period...End of Argument!!! Become legal and anyone can enjoy the benefits of living in the USA!

It is so funny to me how everyone always say "become legal" "go through the process of becoming legal" as if it were so easy. Clearly you all have no understanding of you the immigration process works and how confused and unreliable it truly is.

I believe that there are some people who don't deserve the benefits of my country. That being said, there are many people that are here who work hard and pay taxes and abide by the laws of the land. Who truly came here to provide better lives for their families- they deserve that chance. It isn't easy to obtain a visa in many countries. It cost a lot of money that many people don't have. And if they did have it, they probably wouldn't be coming to live in the US unless they were under some sort of threat, as people with money in many of these countries live rather lavishly. They especially wouldn't come here to be looked down upon and treated the way many immigrants are.

As for the children. Many children come here when they are too young to understand. They were raised and only know an American culture. Many don't even speak their native language anymore and depending on how they came to this country determines whether or not they can easily obtain status here. Some run major risks going back to their countries because when you come from the US people automatically assume you have money. Remember, these are third world countries these people come from...

JMG88...There are laws and procedures in place that allow an individual to become a US citizen. People of any race that wish to come to become citizens of the United States should do it legally! If the laws and procedures are too complicated or need to be changed then that is a separate issue that can be addressed. If a person or family is here illegally and utilizes services or takes much needed services away from "law abiding" legal citizens it IS WRONG!!!

The US government should step up enforcement of the existing laws and not allow illegals of any race to stay in our country until they have legally became citizens. You stated that there are many who work hard and pay taxes and abide by the laws of the land. I agree, however they are still ILLEGAL. They are violating the law and taking resources away from LEGAL United States citizens. The United States needs to quit being so PC and enforce the laws...I would rather a legal citizen get my tax dollars than someone who is illegal.
