Welfare drug testing

Kasha Kelley is trying to get this bill through again. But doesn't random drug testing of welfare recipients feels a little too Big Brother?

Kasha is big on individual rights, so why should this end with people who are receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, as the program is now called. It's not your grandmother's welfare - you can't stay on it forever and you have to be working or looking/training for work to receive TANIF. There are exceptions for hard cases, I believe.

If the reasoning is to hold accountable those people receiving government assistance, don't we have to extend that to business owners receiving tax breaks, or direct subsidies, or individuals receiving income tax credits?

Perhaps welfare recipients are a subgroup that merits more suspicion because they are not producing anything in return for their assistance. But then again, they are required to join the workforce and get off assistance, which could make them more productive.

Ha! Kasha's dad's business would have to be tested...they received welfare to get in that big building. How sweet would that be?

^^Someone obviously doesn't know what welfare is.

A tax incentive, if they did receive one, is not welfare.

Would you rather that building were left in it's previous ondition and sat empty to this day, with pieces falling off of it? I bet if whomever renovated it was a democrat you would be all for it.

Lets stick to the question at hand. Welfare drug testing. YES! YES! and YES! again. We should drug test. Welfare is based on per dependant, if the parent is breaking the law then they don't get benefits for themselves, the other dependants still would receive.

If they want to take my tax money then they have to take a piss test. I am damn tired of supporting those that will not support themselves.

Welfare monies are taken from working people to give to families who need. There must be some checks and balances to be sure the money is being used properly. This is not a job, it is a gift. But, as we the people are giving the gift, we should have some say in how it is applied. I don't mind giving my share for food and rent and utilities, but anything else should be sought elsewhere! There needs to be some way to be sure our money is not wasted, and most importantly, not wasted on drugs.
