Abrams mystery solved

Looks like Steve Abrams changed him mind and has filed to run against Greta Goodwin for state Senator. Whoa. That could be a knock down drag out between two forceful personalities who are polar opposite on the issues. First, though, Abrams has to get past a primary opponent - the guy from Mulvane, George Leach.

Abrams has the name recognition the and social conservative base, but Goodwin won't be afraid to go after him for his part in the board of education shenanigans the last decade. Goodwin, though, is vunerable as a center-left politician and she has made a few enemies with her aggressive approach. She is a good retail politician, though, advocating for local institutions and concerns.

The corporate phrase used here most often comes to mind is "Low hanging fruit.” It seems that many are seeking opps that are either an uncontested race or a vulnerable candidate race.
It took a great while for a candidate to file for Abrams seat and then, only after insiders apparently knew he would be vacating.
Goodwin has kept a mushroom cloud of rumors about retiring from the Senate for quite some time. Last minute filers give the impression that they think is about out of fight and ready for some to mercifully end her career.

She has done well and has rarely endured as much criticism for her posits or productivity as she has for aggressiveness. In some ways, I think you need an intimidator for her district.

We have so few economic banners flying in this part of the state; it would easy to be overlooked without a resounding voice.

Progressive is what we need right now. Not so much the "tip the table over" kind of aggression of southern Cowley right now.

Maybe we should seek a constructivist manner of representation. Greta would be a good constructivist. (Has been one for some time now). Abrams is more of a maintenance specialist. He embraces old values (not necessarily a bad thing) but sometimes at what expense is the point to ponder.

But then again - someone will pop on here to remind me that I really don't know anything or have anything of worth to say. So, just skip over what you just read. Don't read it.

It isn't that you don't have anything of worth to say. Just the opposite. Sometimes you are almost 50% right. On this topic in particular you are off base. Greta is an albatross. We will be glad to see her go. She has shunned so many of her constituents it surprises me to even see her hardcore devotees (all 5 of them). I am counting David Jr. and Sr. as 2 of the 5.

Anonymous,

I would not assume that David Jr. and David Sr. are hardcore devotees. Greta may have signed their absentee ballots too.

Now THAT is possible!

Just read how the news reports come in until November and see which candidate is supported over another. Then decide for yourself.

Wouldn't it be nice for once if a reporter at the Courier or the Traveller investigated the information for a news article instead of just printing what was told to them. For instance it might have been of interest to your readers that Leach was a democrat up to the last minute before filing to run on the republican side. Then he calls himself a centrist. Or did some reporter "lead the witness" and ask him if he was describe himself as a centrist. Then the guy probably said yes because that sounds good. That is probably how Burr became a centrist too.

Goodwin claimed to know weeks ago that Abrams was running.

So what!?!

Does that make her extra special?

I am betting she didn't know anything he didn't want known.

Just because he didn't offically announce, doesn't mean it was a secret. Did Dave Jr. know? My guess is Dave Jr. knew if Goodwin knew. However, in an attempt to maintain his professionalism, he waited to hear it from the horse doctor's mouth, so to speak.

I'm looking forward to the discourse that will take place between two known candidates who have had prior election success. Somebody is going to lose maybe for their first time ever. And if it is Greta, it will not matter the numerous "important" committees she has been on and the numerous "important" people she has had in her office and that she helped Al Gore invent the internet.

I will be voting for Steve Abrams, He is the most logical of the 3, Greeta I voted for you for several terms and you have continued to consider us that live in sumner county as outsiders even though we are a big part of your constituants. We have continually asked for your help and you have continued to shun us. As for the other running from Mulvane they have crossed our trust and we will be looking for someone that will represent Wellington as well as the other areas of the 32nd district.

Steve Abrams has my vote too.

I like the way Steve responds to personal e-mails. I can not say that about Kelly or Goodwin.

I've had the same trouble with kelly but not when I send to her personal email. seems like the official state email doesn't get to her is the problem. she's very responsive when I finally got the right address. same thing happens when I maill to the capitol address. they must not get all of their mail. mailing here locally has been a better experience.

Not sure there was a mystery to solve.

I'll vote for Abrams.

Can you explain to us the "board of education shenanigans" as you put it for those of us that don't know what your talking about? But I'm thinking from your comment it will be a little one sided...
