Passenger rail

Sen. Goodwin was a champion for this, but will be leaving office. Will another local champion step up? Doesn't seem like Kasha Kelley or Steve Abrams are too excited about it. Doesn't seem to fit into their mission as spending hawks. Winfield Rep. Ed Trimmer is an advocate, but could that set up a conflict between Ark City and Winfield on who might get the stop in Cowley County?

It wouldn't make sense to stop in one town and not the other and which lawmakers did or didn't support it wouldn't change that.

Maybe it would happen if the state put "Darwin Sucks!" on the side of the cars...

Only problem I would see would be which town would get the whistle stop (who might get the economic benefits from it). I think both Kelley and Abrams wouldn't have a problem with the train coming up from Texas and linking up at Newton. I don't think they are fiscal tightwads, but they are concerned on where the money goes, and that it goes to what it is intended for. It might be a drain on the state economy, but there would be a possible finacial benefit for the local communities the train stops at. Could be wrong.

Additional ideas for signs on cars: maybe "Abortion Sucks!" would work or a giant picture of Jesus.

It would be good for the local economy, so I'm for it. Hopefully it won't be in the northern part of Winfield. I just don't see it being in Ark City since the state has been depriving the city for years.

perhaps "I brake for tax breaks" or a picture of Calvin peeing on the Islamic symbol would get the Kansas politicians on board with this issue...

Thanks for a good laugh guys.

I bet some readers in these blogs are worried about a train from Texas bringing us more hispanics -- oooh scary!

How about a stop in Strother Field?

There's a rumor that the illegal immigrants are not coming to the US because of the bad economy....

The Kansas Department of Transportation is going to conduct an Amtrak Expansion Feasibility Study and Arkansas City along with Winfield are two of the cities included in the study.

I took a ride on the train from Newton to Colorado. It potentially was the worst transportation experience of my life. It wasn't cheap, quick or enjoyable. If it supports economic stimulus then great, but I hope people understand the transportation situation it provides. It was more comfortable than public bus, but from a private economic perspective give me a Greyhound.

"Abortion does suck" literally, youtube it. Forget Jesus or Darwin...abortion is brutal on women. I understand the attempt at humor, it just failed miserably.
