Whoever thought of electing a Sheriff in the first place was an idiot. There is no way that a person can be a Law Enforcer AND A politician without corruption raising it's ugly head. Whether it's somehting as simple as not letting deputies give speeding tickets to campaign contributors, all the way up to helping people that helped get you elected out of legal trouble.

Does anyone know if Read paid to rent the big sign between Ark City and Winfield that used to be about underage drinking, but now has VOTE FOR READ signs on it? If the County or state paid for that sign, and then Read put his signs on it, then that is a violation of election laws.

Campaign contribution and spending reports are due July 28. We'll know more then. If you're really interested, call him up and ask!

Find it interesting who has which sign in their yard.

2 policeman have Emerson yard signs.

1 commissioner has a Reid sign.

I've asked for a Reid sign.

I saw a Sheriff South of town with a Read sign. I heard the only reason Emerson is running is because he wants to put this on his resume. I don't think Emerson has the respect of the Sheriff staff.

Well, who would know better than the cops who would be the best candidate? If the cops are voting for Emerson, they must be doing it for a reason.

Don Read is the only choice that makes sense . emerson , who is he , where has he been , i have no idea and never heard of him till this election . NOW Mr. Read on the other hand has been protecting us the whole time , i can say that as a teenager deputy Read was nothing but fair , and i for one was put on a different path by Mr. Read with a caring conversation that has stuck with me still to this day , so if you want a person who is fair and cares at the same time , Mr. Don Read is your man

Most of the cops that I know are voting for Read.
If you want honesty and integrity in a Sheriff, Don Read IS the Choice!

To me experience matters! Emerson seems to be a nice person but he has been out of law enforcement for many years. We need people with education, experience and up to date with current law enforcement. Reed seems to be the best choice if you compare their resumes.

I thinnk it comes down to whether you like the way things are now, or not. Emerson promises change, where as with Read it will still be the same as we have now.

Kinda mirrors the Presidential election.

Cowley County Undersheriff Don Read announced late Wednesday afternoon that Bill Mueller – a former KBI and FBI agent – has agreed to serve as his undersheriff if Read is elected sheriff.
This is a great combination, Bill Mueller is very well respected and a great mentor for officers.

why has my post about the sheriff's race mirroring the presidential race not been posted from 2 days ago?

Did you find it offensive?

Sorry.
That one slipped by me. It's been published

Emerson has been run out of his jobs in Douglas and Udall. Why would we entrust him with a similar position again?

How do you know that Reed will not make changes? He has been under the direction og Odell for many years. I would think he has changes that would make the department more progressive. I guess we should all be asking the candidates about their proposed changes if any. Also what changes do you think need to be made? Is it that change is the new buzz word.

Want more of the same vote Read.
Want change (and we need it) vote Emerson! I am voting Emmerson!

Anonymous you need to make sure you have your facts rightbefore you attack someone. Mr. Emerson was not run out of Douglass Or Udall. He was the Chief Of Police at Douglass and was hired at a first interview by the Chief of Pratt Police Department. He was later recruited to work for the Pratt Sheriff. He then returned to Udall were after a short time was made Chief of Police there. He returned to Winfield where he has been working for the Winfield Housing Authority for the last 13 years. He was not run out of anywhere and if he was I doubt very much that any of the places that hired him would have hired him.

I haven't heard who pays for the sign between Winfield and Ark City that Read has his signs on. It would be great to know! Any one heard who pays rent on the sign?
