32nd vote break down

Looks like Abrams won handily in Ark City, by about 450 votes, and Goodwin won even more handily, 1,150 votes in Winfield. But Abrams also won in the rural precincts of Cowley County, by about 500 votes. Sumner County of course, gave Abrams a HUGE edge, more than 2,000 votes.

I think that shows that people in Winfield are smarter than those in AC.

The people in Wellington did the right thing because GG left them hanging on an important issue. Or I should say that she did not represent their interests very well, but for those of us in AC and Winfield, she did a great job...

@11:30a.m.
"for those of us in AC and Winfield, she did a great job..."

Please speak for yourself. She took credit for stuff she knew she didn't do.
Kasha pushed those things through. i.e. Transparency legislation, Jodi's law. Note: Kasha had to push it PAST Greta. Bye GG.

But Greta was around a bit longer and was active in some key initiatives to buttress the economy in our area.
No one person gets it all done. Kasha made friends and alliances with key people who helped her move barriers.
Transparency in government is, however, a soft issue. Allocation of dollars for transportation and support for existing employers along with incentives for new jobs matters also.
An irony is that Greta supported legislation that was pivotal to the First Intermark business plan.
Those things can slide away from our memory.

Senator Goodwin became unpopular over time but that tends to be the nature of politics. She, too, was a part of some beneficial legislative acts for her constituents.

The comparison is not former Senator Goodwin vs Representative Kelley. It is the work of Goodwin versus her successor Abrams that should be juxtaposed.

The region needs an economic shot in the arm. (Some argue) the casino in Sumner will move us forward. We need something more solid than the entertainment (sin) industry to stabilize the region.

Clock's ticking Mr. Senator Elect Abrams. Now that we can see you in our shiny new transparent government, folks are waiting with baited breath for you to make us better in South Central Kansas.

Here's my generous offer. I will preach and retell the creation story from the pulpit (did even on yesterday). You just get us some jobs and dollars for traffic-way improvement, Mr. Senator.

Should have happened long ago. GG, ruined the Cowley County Democratic Party, with her demands and putting herself first.

I guess the point is that we ought to just focus on setting the performance bar fairly high as opposed to saying "he can't do much worse than...."

We have a new elected official in place and some persistent needs before us. Shall we turn our attention - and his- towards those needs.

For example: It has been argued for over a decade that US77 between Ark City and Winfield does not adequately service the industrial park and its tenants. Several have insisted that it is unsafe. Now, we are about to add a health care facility as a neighb or to the Strother Field - including the service and heavy truck traffic during the construction phase. Let's start talking forward to what needs must be addressed.

Alliance with local government in AC, Winfield and Wellington for continuing improvements to the respective downtowns is a concern/opportunity.

Upgrade of housing in Arkansas City would benefit from KDOCH support.
Also, thinking on a broader scope, how Senator elect Abrams facilitates the Casino development issue in the western parameter of his senate district is a high priority.

See how much we can discuss about the new Senator without reminiscing over past disconnects.

Thanks, Greta, for serving. The system still works and allows for the constituents to express desire for a new direction by going to the polls and voting. Losing an election is more about policy and performance than popularity and personality. At least I hope it is.

Word of the day.--juxtaposed--Thanks Charles!

Say what you want, Charles. Believe what you want.
There is a good reason why GG lost this election. Most of us know the reason. I'm glad she's gone. Now, as Buzz would say, "to infinity & beyond!"
Good riddance, GG.

"Losing an election is more about policy and performance than popularity and personality."

You only wish. I do too for that matter. We all should desire for this to be the case for any position and not just political. Trouble is, this is simply idealistic and not realistic.

If you watch HBO boxing you know that it is much more than sheer skill or strength the makes fights. The age-old quote from Lampley is that STYLE makes fights. That is much the case for leaders in any form. And STYLE is a broad mixture of personality, performance, strategy, willpower, sheer grit, etc etc.

So, the real answer is success boils down to the whole package of a person as the sum of their parts. There is so such oversimplification and wishfulness of only policies and performance.
Those one-dimensional measurements are good for seeing how things looks on paper. They don't stretch much further.
