Spring elections
Spring elections will be here before you know it. Will Pat McDonald, Joel Hockenbury and Scott Margolius run again for city commission. Will Darin Reese stay on after taking his kids out of public schools
If any of them do run for reelection, voters should be very observant about who/what supports them, i.e. a bank, a business etc. That can be a real tell. Maybe someone new will try to get his feet wet on his own.
Rick makes a great point. It is always important to watch where the support comes from. Businesses, banks, civic and professional organizations (particularly the teachers union in the case of a BOE race).
It is always important to know who is running and will they support status quo or fight for the progress that will keep Arkansas City from become a distant bedroom community to Wichita.
The way that people treat the commission you should be surprised to see anyone run- everyone loves to arm chair quarterback but want to actually get off their butts very little yet constantly scrutinize and criticize the actions of others. I certainly hope these 3 run again- I believe they truly care about our town but from the comments they get in the blogs if it were me I would tell the bitchers to get off their butts and walk a mile in anothers shoes and run their own sorry ass city.
That's right Mars- Especially with school board, Mars. Are they the type of people who will have the stones to stand up for what's right, or will they hide behind policy and only listen to their cronies and throw people under the bus in order to avoid making any waves with the super. Yeah, let's hope THAT never happens!
I hope they do run. They've done a great job for the city. If people don't like it and they know so much more than the current commissioners than they too should throw their hat into the ring.
I only wish it were Kuhn and Smith that were up for re election, so we could be rid of them. I think Patrick and Joel have been on the right side of the issues and put the city before a personal agenda Cough*LOWES*cough, like Kuhn and Smith.
You ought to work for the city and listen to the crap that rolls down hill! They nothing more about half the topics they prescribe onto the city than any of us do, yet THEY are the ones who strong arm quraterback. Go to a commision meeting and even dare to challenge Kuhn, and see how he uses his "I'm a big loudmouthed guy" syndrome to intimidate you. Maybe he ought to first check his own life and out of town habits before he pretends to be a proffesional and try and make decisions. It's hard to understand a department in the city without first working for that department and actually seeing what goes on there! I've never but once seen a commissioner make it into "my department" to visit except after they got elected! That's it!!! They don't understand police tactics, Fire Tactics, sanitation, sewer, etc! They all have their own agenda's and always have clear back to the time when they first started to run for the city! IT's pathetic and the worst commission of all time!

Anonymous,
"That's right Mars- Especially with school board, Mars."
I sense sarcasm. I generally don't give anonymous posts much consideration but now you have me intrigued. Care to elaborate?
