Lanning, Wilt are the winners

LaDonna Lanning beat the boys for the GOP nomination for local judge.
Chris Smith and Bill Muret were a close second and third.

I suspected she might sneak in there. I was also surprised and impressed at the number of yard signs, and financial donors, she had.

Wayne Wilt soundly won the county commission race. No surprise there, with most of the district in the Winfield area. Wilt seems like he'd make a good commissioner. Ark City area candidates McGowan and Green ran third and fourth.

Pompeo looks like he'll easily win the GOP nod for Congress. That general election race should be interesting. Pompeo's got to the be the favorite but Goyle's got money, smarts and presents well on TV and on the stump.

Hopefully Moran will hold on to beat Tiahrt.

How come your election results show Tiahrt with more votes, but everyone else says Moran won?

Glad to see Lanning take the judgeship.

Results were good overall.

Do we have any input from the local attorneys - the people who really know who would make a good judge - about Lanning, or any of the others? The impression I get is she is a very nice lady with very little experience. What does it take to make a good judge. How can we find out? My thought was talking to local attorneys, but I think people don't care much about if they have the right qualities, just who they think is personable.

Can (or will) the Traveler do the research? Will the people really care before the election? Or is this just a popularity contest with no concern for who can actually do the job?

Lanning has been practicing law since 1993. I wouldn't call that "very little experience".

Just sayin'.

She will have my vote in November.

Yes her "years of experience" may be 17. But when all of her "experience" has been in only ONE area of the law, how is that a wide range of experience? LaDonna will probably win, but she will be a pathetic judge.

All it takes to be a judge is good old fashion common sense and the ability to interpret the laws of the State. Magistrate judges don't even have to pass the bar. I have seen magistrate judges who were just good ol' boy farmers serve many times.

David; I just read your blog. There is one boy she didn't beat.

Those that voted for LaDonna are lost, confused and have no idea what it takes to be a judge. She does not have the experience or the common sense to be succesful in that position. Those that voted for her simply because she is a female, you should be ashamed. You vote for who would be the best at that position not because she is a female. If she wins the county is worse off. Wake up Cowley County. She is a joke. I am also want to know why the Traveler endorsed her as a candidate. Please enlighten me.
