Let the race begin

Looks like Mel Kuhn is not running for re-election to the Ark City Commission. Dotty Smith is. Ark City school board has just five candidates for four seats. The deadline to file was noon today.

Think god Kuhn is not running again, and if we can keep Smith and Snell from being re-elected. Start with some new folks and see were they take us, it can not get any worse.

Is Hockenbury a new folks or old folks?

Greater than my disappointment in all the underhanded deealings of Lane and Steve, I must admit that this tops THAT!

Again we start with this mindless anybody but the people who are serving rhetoric.

It's time someone cause Arkansas City to accept its total role in this three ring circus at city hall.

You keep manufacturing - hallucinating - about these conspiracies and you run to whomever ISN'T in office to address what is being done by those in office.

Recall that just two years ago you elected Jean Snell. Now it's back to "anybody but Snell."

When shall we stop voting like idiots and prepubescent malcontents?

Because of Kuhn, enough pressure was applied to stop this cash exodus at the 10s of thousands of dollars per person.

Witout a clue as to what prompted any of these candidates to sign up for the office, you immediately and mindlessly begin your "time for someone new" banter again.

One of the "new" candidates is there to preserve the agressive posture of the PD. They like the invisible Chief and his voice from Heaven speaker in the headquarters. Don't you just love being put on camera when you walk in and talking to someone who can see you but does not want to be seen.

When you are having that child safety talk with your little ones, you should now show them a section of particle board and tell them, "If you are ever lost, always look for one of these and it will bring you safely home."

Try this one. "Don't accept a ride from a stranger. Wait until you see a piece of particle board and wave them down and tell them you are lost."

Another candidate fantasizes about revisiting 2006 and dredging up an old agenda set by folks who since then have LOST THEIR FAMILY OWNED BANK!! Wow!. And no one even wonders why they were so desperate to get the City to buy into their faux ponsy scheme to the tune of a few million dollars of the tax payer money.

No home supply store was serious about coming here. But a few mill from the city coffers may have staved off the bank going into receivership. Vote for that candidate.

Of course, Dotty, who owns rental property, wants quality housing. How dare she fake to care about people living in homes with defective and outdated electrical wiring and plumbing. (that was sarcasm if you missed it)

Point is folks, grow up and stop making up ghost stories that leave you afraid to sleep alone at noght. Find out what each candidate is focused on. And stop assigning your own insecurities and motives to them without merit.

Can we please for once, if only once, take this election seriously and vote like intelligent adults?

I could not disagree more. Even though they are almost exact opposits they have done a good job of coming together and making tough choices and cleaning up a lot of things that the administration was doing behind the citizens back with our tax dollars good luck to both Smith and Snell

I have not made up my mind yet honestly.

I like the fact that Snell has a background running school districts with big budgets. I have seen this helps him in dealing with the city business. Also, I think his wife has done great things for the city and does not get much credit for it. Hard to tell if that should get him a vote. I don't think he was a great superintendent or anything but I have certainly seen many worse.

Dotty makes some off the wall comments sometimes. She did earn my respect a bit more with her Thanksgiving dinner for the poor a couple years ago but I don't think they continued it since. Not really sure what to do with her either.

I am glad Mr. Kuhn is not running again. But he is a good businessman.

Yes, they have continued to host the Thanksgiving dinner at the senior center on Thanksgiving day.

Does that mean we can look forward to Kuhn and Kuhn Jr. coming back to the blogs and threatening to track down anyone who doesn't agree with them?

YIPEE!!

Oh wait, they have been here all along posting anonymously.

Well, well, well. Kuhn is out, so Dave who will you waste countless hours writing about every week?

Kuhn did more in one year as mayor than anyone has ever. So, when you are all complaining about the direction the city is headed in a year or so, maybe you will realize he was not such a villain after all.

Good luck Ark City....

Absolutely. Kuhn protected Ark City from economic development and made Ark City a household name in places that had never heard of Ark City before or since.

Wake up and smell the roses. We really don't have to wait to see "where the city is headed in a year or so" to see Kuhn's influence. Just go to the north of town and look at the Lowes. Go to city hall and look for managerial staff. Go look at Bryant's Hardware who was being protected from the evil developers.

"All this PC is bullshit. We go around walking on eggshells all the time, we don’t get anything done."

Well said, Mell.

I think we get it.

"Kuhn did more in one year as mayor than anyone has ever."

That's like saying Obama has accomplished more in his first two years than any other Presdient.

More things accomplished, whether they were detrimental or not. Kuhn certainly made the paper more than any other mayor in the last decade. usually for something stupid he said or did.

Smash all you want when the going gets tough you want that guy on your side. everyone complains but no one will stand up and take on the problem at the plate, Mell Kuhn does.

You could be right. Kuhn does take on problems. Too bad most of the problems he takes on were created by him and his good ole boys.

When Kuhn leaves does he leave any legacy behind?
