Casino coming?

Will this casino near Wichita ever get built? It broke ground in February.

But some anti-gaming lawmakers want the state Attorney General to investigate the company that got the contract to build the casino near Mulvane/Wichita. But it hasn't gotten off the ground.

Here's the AP story:

Speaker Mike O'Neal says he doesn't know when the Kansas House will consider intervening in an Iowa company's plans to build a state-owned casino south of Wichita.

Debate had been scheduled Wednesday on a resolution directing the attorney general to challenge the state gaming commission's decision to let the project go forward. But the House canceled the debate when evening came.

O'Neal said it got too late for a long debate.

Iowa-based Peninsula Gaming plans to build the casino about 18 miles south of Wichita.

Critics note Peninsula and two executives face misdemeanor campaign finance charges in Iowa.

Peninsula says it expects the case to be resolved in its favor. Project supporters say the charges aren't serious enough to bar the firm from building its casino.

The only reason this company got the casino in the first place was b/c it was going to be built near Wichita, who by the way voted AGAINST gaming for Sedgwick county. I hope the plug does get pulled on it....it was all politics and the people of Mulvane were very backstabbing to Sumner county and its citizens along the way.

It amazes me how they always seem to overlook the "DARKSIDE" of the casinos.

Yeah, it seems everyone has been there or goes there on occasionand yeah not everyone leaves a looser!
But, the underlying damage to those who can't handle or afford it is still staggering!

That side just never makes the SPOTLIGHT or even the MEDIA!

I WONDER WHY?

There may be a dark side to casinos, but they are not forcing anyone to go there. I have been there a coupe of times, and have spent less than $50 total. If people are too weak or too dumb not to spend their house payment in there trying to get rich, you can hardly blame the casinos for that.
