Doug Russell

I think this quote in today's storyfrom Mayor Mell Kuhn says it all about relations between some commissioners and their city manager.

"It's just a guess on my part," Kuhn said. "We're not a bureaucracy. We're not bobble heads for everything he wants. We scrutinize everything."

Thinking out of the box is great (wasn't that what the Lowe's deal was) but it seems that Russell hasn't been given the chance he deserves after being hired only 18 months ago. My guess is that the current majority didn't hire him and don't feel much obligation to see him succeed and do his thing.

hey Dave since your such a politics junky why don't you try a run for the city commish? maybe it is time for some californiaesque ecumenisism?

I think you are exactly right. I took the same thing from that quote. As long as the Amigos are running things their way, this city will never look for solutions outside the box. It will be same old same old. The next election cannot come soon enough.

Every time I read a post and someone is trying to be campy and smart, they show their true ignorance when they refer to part of the sitting commission as amigos. It shows a real lack of insight on the part of the poster. They would realize first of all that being an amigo is a compliment. By their very nature they are bucking the status quo and thinking outside of the box that has been the stagnation of Ark City. I would be proud to be called an amigo for that matter as I am observing them as making progress for the first time in years. Much of the battle to be done here is one of emotion and morale and they are accomplishing that amoungst the people. There are a select few monied interests who do not appear to like the changes but they have a lot to lose when their Kansas City buddies do not make get rich off of sweetheart deals at the expense of the taxpayer.

Thanks for your Ignorance!

It is so helpful to know that ignorance = disagreeing with you. If that is your definition, I wholeheartedly embrace it!

I think that all those who see that they are being taxed beyond thier limits by those who want to stay in the same old status quo to raise taxes without or economy growing should receive a knock on the door from everyone as they leave town because of these old stubborn way of governing. Better yet put them on the front line in IRAQ or on the southern boader fight the cartel!!!!!!!!

Same old status quo was shooting down the Lowe's deal without even going to the next step.

And the Amigos are amigos only to one another and the downtown business owners, not to the majority of the town who wanted a Lowe's store.

It might have been majority of YOUR mind and your buddies but not of the people. You will find out at the next election how wrong you are.

I'm curious. The Lowe's deal is over and life moves on, but the concept is important as it affects what we can do in the future.

Lowe's was going to pay 100% of their taxes... no breaks.

The developer was going to use Lowe's taxes to develop a shopping center (with Lowe's as the anchor) which they had the contacts to fill.

I hear often that we should use tax breaks to draw and help new business (example: the new meat store). For the life of me I can't figure out what the difference is. I can't figure out what people expect or want.

How can we help our own cause when there is so much confusion about what we want? If the county and city act on responses from the community how can they separate out the confusion?

Well...I will not call them the amigos, I will call them what they are....three self serving people who look to their own needs when deciding what the majority of people in this city......MOST OF US BEING LONG TERM MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY unlike the three "self serving". They have run Doug Russell off.....and again, done damage to our city. Doug was (AND IS) a very talented man who brought good new ideas and a wonderful attitude to Ark City, and what did he get? A city commission whom the majority only operates on their own agendas. Does power hungry and self serving ring a bell?? IT SHOULD NOW.

Yes, Hillary Clinton. haha

Power Hungry and Self-Serving is the members of Ark City Industries. I bet you will see their members running in the next commission race because they can't stand not being able to control how the commission thinks.
