No right to vote

A reader writes:

Actually, the Constitution never explicitly ensures the right to vote...

This is true

So far nobody agrees with me. But where has voter fraud ever been a problem. Why create obstacles to voting for people who might not have ID for whatever reason?

Here's the nun story

Phyllis Schlafly was writing a book on voter fraud. Not sure if it is out yet.

"Louisiana has a long history of vote fraud. "

"In at least six states, the crucial issue in the November 2006 election may turn out to be whether or not voters must present photo ID. Since we have to show government-issued ID in order to board a plane, cash a check, enter a federal building, and for many trivial pursuits such as buying alcohol or renting a video, why not make it a requirement in order to verify that you are a legal voter?
Honest elections should not be a partisan issue."

Voting is a priveledge not a right.

So asking for ID is only common sense.

I don't know, maybe they are trying to keep some of the illegals from voting?

Voting isn't EXPLICITLY in the constitution as a right but is an inferred right based on the fact that we are a representative Democracy. One constitutional amendment gave 18 year old the right to vote, which makes it pretty clear that it is a fundamental right of every citizen.

Shouldn't everyone that qualifies to vote have an id? If your at least 18 years of age, shouldn't you be carrying an id anyway? I don't really care one way or another if that law passes, but I really hope they are ready to see an ugly picture! : )

I would be more than happy to show my ID to vote, because I am a legal US Citizen. If this keeps illegals from voting, I am all for it.

I carry a photo ID to prove that I have permission to drive, and another one to prove that I have a right to enter my workplace. It is neither discriminatory nor a burden to require one to vote. There is no reason for my taxes to pay to provide anyone with an ID - that is their problem.

I'm really disappointed in Dave putting up a big fuss over voter id. We really know it is all a clever ruse because he doesn't want to get an id for himself!

A free voter ID card not only makes good sense, it also would protect our local, state, and federal governments. There are, if you can believe the new, enough illegal aliens (not undocumented citizens) in this country to sway ellections.
