I knew when the stuff about the Udall Chief jobn and the bankruptcy came out that it would be a landslide. Some people sling mud. If you have anything for it to stick to, don't run for public office.
If he wants to retire as a Police Officer, then he should apply for a job as a Police Officer or Sheriff's deputy, and not try to start at the top spot. Or go to a small town, which, in my opinion, is a much better place to be an LEO than Ark City or Winfield (or Cowley SO).
It's over lets move on and quit beating emerson and read up. We have a new sherrif elected by the people and by a legal and cival proccess. If you don't like who one you have four years to work on your platform and file for office. Until then congrats to Don Read, We should all now ralley to support or law enforcement and hold them accountable for their actions.
I have to agree with the editorial in the paper about how the Democrats and Independents (of which I am one) were disenfranchised in this Sheriff's election. We were unable to have a say in who would be the top law enforcement officer in our County simply because of our registered political party, and that is not right, no matter how you look at it.
I agree that Emerson should have stayed in the democratic party and there wouldn't have been a holy blowout. He would have had more votes. I knew tons of democrats that would have voted for him but didn't because they didn't want to register republican and then reregister back to democrat. So just because Read won by a landslide doesn't mean he was totally the "perfect" choice. Gonna have to widen some of the doors in the courthouse for Reads head to fit in. LMAO!

I thought Read would win - but would have never guessed by that big of margin.
I believe that the people of Cowley County have spoken...loud and clear!!

If Emerson wants to retire a police officer he should spend his time & money training for the job.
Congrats to Read !

If Emerson hadn't changed his party affiliation to Republican, you could have voted for him in the fall. So maybe that was his fault.
