Spector the defector

This seems like mostly self-interest on Spector's part, but it does underscore GOP problem of keeping moderates in the party and the hardening, shrinking of the Party.

I guess he decided to start caring about people in his old age.

He knows that in a few years he will need us Democrats to take care of him.

It has nothing to do with politics and more to do with what gets him elected to office. ANY office. He doedn't care who he works for or represents as long as he gets to stay in power. He long ago forgot the "working for the people" part of the job.

Yes, a decision made out of self-interest. If you listen to his statement, he said "the people spoke to me." He refers to the fact that his district has moved to the Democratic side and since the Republicans there have gone far-right, he decided to make the switch. If you look at his voting record, you can see that when he says his stances on issues over the recent years have been more in line with the Democrats, he is telling the truth. It also says that the W Bush agenda didn't align with his, which was the case for most Republicans, but only until and during the McCain campaign. What does that tell you?

But there is politics and there is getting stuff done. I don't know that part of our problem in the USA would be eliminated by having more elected officials show a preference to being able to accomplish things than being married to antiquated partisan ideology.

It is neither republican party or the democrat party that has brought ruination to our country. It is ideological partisanship. That only consistently yields ineffective leadership and finger pointing.

Example: I really like US Representative Tiahrt. But, I don't like him when he is simply casting partisan stones at the Democrats instead of doing what he does best. He gets stuff done. When he starts that partisan rhetoric he just becomes another excuse maker.

Well said Charles. It's the sentiment of, "they can't get the credit for moving the country forward" that keeps us stagnant. There is little argument on both sides about what is good for the country, it's the how we get there that differs. Why don't we just get there and be happy?

Something everyone should know. Obamas making work pay credit will be countered by the irs and affect millions of people with the new tax withholding tables next year. Here is a link: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/INSIDE-WASHINGTON-Rude-apf-15091434.html?.v=1

Thanks for the link Jamie. Seems like a chicken---- way to do things. The sad part is that most people won't know until it's too late. $400 might mean a months rent to a lot of people.

As anyone going to point out that young David spelled Specter incorrectly? Political novice indeed.
