Health care debate part II

New poll finds big support for public insurance option, similar to Medicare, for everyone. And this blogger asks where Sebelius is in this fight? Republicans are countering on the cost and deficit front - recent polls show Americans also worried about debt and over spending.

A healthcare option like Medicare is a recipe for disaster. If anyone has dealt with Medicare for elderly parents, etc. they will tell you that you only get what the gov. says you can get. It is not healthcare for individuals but healthcare for the masses. If you don't fail into their "standard of care" you are out...no exceptions and try to appeal means months of paperwork and run around. If the gov can not get the VA hospitals right then why do we believe it will be better for those of us who didn't make those sacrifices for our country. Sebelius will agree with whatever Obama wants...it is her job.

I totally respect the first posters opinion and I don't know if medicare type insurance is the right thing to do, but private insurance companies dictate what we can and cant do either. How silly is it they pay for the cardiologist who is affiliated with x number of hospitals, but my insurance says we have to go here instead of the there we would rather go. Oh, I'm sure it all boils down to money in the end, but I'm sure the insurance gets their profits.

Everyone complains about medicare, but the elderly in Ark City would be in a world of trouble without it.

I agree that insurance companies are not easy to work with but I still have choices. I listened to the President's news conference yesterday and I am very concerned that the government is so involved in my life. On the health care issue it was basically, the insurance companies will do it my way or.... On the surface that sounds like a great idea because it will give the world health care BUT it bothers me that he has been given the power to destroy an industry. I get just as upset as anyone about my insurance premimums but I really don't want the government involved in one more phase of my life and their involvement may cost me or my loved one their life. My faith in the government stems from their record with the VA hospitals and anything else they control.

Health care and good health is important and it is a priority but once again all of us will be paying the price for those that did not make it a priority. I would hope we would work with the insurance companies, the lawyers, and those providing the care before we cram one more thing down the throats of the American public. Canadians come to America for health care because their plan is so poor.

Where will we go Mexico????

Maybe if something in between a government and private insurance company could be worked out, we could find a happy medium. I read an article awhile back on abcnews.com that Obama has gotten 6 or 7 private insurance companies on board by getting them to agree to start capping expanding costs on insurance premiums. It's not a lot, but it is a start. Obama knows that not everything he says will be passed by congress. What he does know is to take his ideas to the table and start the bargaining process. I am not an Obama worshipper like some will claim. There are quite a few things he has done that I don't like, but I do like that he listens to others ideas instead of closing them off like some past presidents have done.
