This thing could drag on, apparently. The more it does, the worse is it for the image and productivity of Cowley First. Protecting somebody's privacy is good, but it also breeds suspicion when no words is given on these matter.
I don't fault Alsup or Hill. The problem lies in Kansas public records law, which allows too much secrecy in personnel matters of public officials, in my opinion. We should at least be able to know WHY, she was placed on leave. At least a general reason for such dramatic action by our government officials.

It's not gonna work DA. You tried this; and true, loyal friends don't snitch. No one seems to care about it but you. Let it go.
In defense of David, I agree with him and would like to know why. I don't really care why, but he's right. If a public official is dismissed (or "put on leave") we ahve a right to know, because their actions during the term of their service don't just affect their private lives. They affect the community.
Let me put it this way, no-name-poster from 2:36PM. If someone were fired from a factory job, you wouldn't care less. And you shouldn't. But if your child's kindergarten teacher and they got fired, you'd want to know why. And then imagine the school district not telling you why. That teacher could have been molesting your kid. But they didn't tell you because the superintendent was friends with the teacher and loyal friends don't snitch.
As a public official, this issue can't be viewed as a "loyal friends don't snitch" issue. She could have been doing something bad and we don't know it (like embezzling economic development funds for personal use, as a hypothetical example). That's certainly not kosher.
And honestly, no-name-poster from 2:36PM, from a language arts standpoint, the word snitch has a very negative conotation and implies that some wrong doing has indeed occurred.
Ms. Hill did a great job. Mr. Alsup is the one with the problem, and one of these days someone is going to have the guts to call him on it. All he wants are "yes sir" people.
Obviously it is something very bad and embarrassing or she would want her side of the story out....just leaves us all to speculate and I know the first thing I think of.

Is there a difference between elected officials and public employees? How much information can you expect from an employer/employee relationship? If you believe employees should have there records public, then ALL employee records should be public. I can't see it being both ways.

Disclosing information so that her superiors can not make informed decisions should not go unpunished especially if she had been warned prior to the suspension! Commissioners have a lot to worry about and they definatley don't need to worry about someone in her position not giving all the information she could!
Ha! I thought that is how government worked in todays political realm. Making decissions without all the facts.

Concerning today's paper, Wednesday 7/29/2009, who are your 'staff reporters' anyway? Just letting the idiots know that ONE, I repeat ONE, pot plant does not = MARIJUANA OPERATION!!!! Jeez, don't glorify your headlines like that, it's crappy journalism for one. I did get a huge laugh out of it though, so kudos for that! too bad those two have such crappy, nosy, no life neighbors with a need to snoop in their neighbors backyards and gardens, sad people who should get a life ha ha ha ha ha ...life in a two bit horse town...

How dare those nosey neighbors report illegal activity! Shame on them!
Actually, BRAVO to them for reporting the pot heads next door! I wish we had more neighbors willing to report when they see illegal activity.
