McCain's pastor problems

Looks like John McCain has pastor problems of his own. He rejected the endorsement, which he had actively sought, of John Hagee, a prominent Christian evangelical who promotes Israel but who once said Hitler was sent by God to force Jews back to to their homeland, that God destroyed New Orleans because of homosexual and other sins (Even though the French Quarter was untouched). He also said God will punish those who help Israel give up land to Palestinians. He also called the Catholic Church the Great Whore and compared it to Hitler's violence. I believe he apologized for that.

Here's some backgroundd at the Huffington Post, but there are many online news sources covering this story.

McCain called Hagee's Hitler statement's "crazy." I guess my question is, does McCain's pastor problem compare to Obama's? Wright said some outlandish things, but he didn't ever justify the Holocaust through biblical interpretation. (Of course McCain did not attend Hagee's church for 20 years)

I know that many evangelicals may believe these things but to those of us who do not take the Bible literally, it seems just as off the wall as suspecting the government of introducing AIDS to cities to kill black people.

He rejects another pastor's endorsement

I think this pastor is about as crazy as Rev. Wright, but it is difinitely a different situation since McCain didn't attend his church for 20 years and call him his mentor. He didn't marry McCain or baptize his children either. There is a huge difference.

Obama really scares me and the real Obama he is hiding - not just the one he wants us to see. If he wins the election and can actually do some good for our country, great -- but I'm not voting for him.

"(Of course McCain did not attend Hagee's church for 20 years)"

I'm glad you cleared that up, albeit buried in the story.

Your intro headline is misleading.

Hagee panders to his own chosen people much as does Wright. I have always felt that a corner of Hell is reserved for those who abuse their positional authority within the religous world for their own purposes. I can not get over how a candidate's worth is determined by his or her sentiments towards Israel. That is currently a litmus test on the scale of abortion and neither of them have any real bearing on the security and future prosperity of our country.

Anyone who listens to a pastor, and believes in a magical god who sits in the clouds and judges our actions is a kook in my book anyway. It's just another small step to believe that your god is punishing us when a natural disaster occurs. Just ask Fred Phelps.

If Hagee is not McCain's pastor then McCain has NO pastor problem.

A pastor is one who marries, buries, baptizes, visits, & mentors. A pastor will stand before God & be accountable for all he has said & not said.

Hagee may be a problem, but he isn't McCain's problem.

Obama has a pastor problem along with a long list of additional problems which seems to grow weekly as he becomes a weaker candidate.

Rush called Obama a puppet late last week. Whose puppet ?

Hagee is not McCain's pastor, but he is a pastor that has caused problems for McCain.

This has to neutralize, to some degree, the Wright problem for Obama because it reminds people that religious beliefs and religious figures often fall outside mainstream political discourse and doesn't mean a person who hears them believes them.

What about Hillary's Assassination comments the other day? It's obvious to me that she was saying that she didn't want to drop out because Obama might get whacked, and then she's be the nominee. Anyone in her position would probably think about that at some point... I just can't believe she was stupid enough to say it out loud.

Here is something Obama should worry about :

Taking the Bible literally .... There is no mention in it of the Holocaust, or of Hitler, or of the USA.

Many of those that say they take it literally do not.
They are just twisting it for their own purposes.
