More than likely not, If we get a break in taxes from the federal government then they will more than likely take what we save from their and get on local property taxes to keep their budget up. The real question is will they for go some future raises to help the general public out. Not taking an 8% raise can get a lot of people behind you in doing your job. We gave Aslup the raise but he did not have to take it same as for the future they do not have to take raises out the comunity exspense nor do they have to raise taxes they could do like Gov. Palin and sale some things off and lower property tax to help out the good citizens of Cowley County
Palin proved that it is not always bad to do something for the people from the big chairs
Generally speaking, we rarely get any complete tax relief. When one entity "lowers taxes" another invariably boosts theirs to fill in the gap left. Our overall mill rate moves very little...and small increases are always going to be necessary to keep our government employees and purchases of goods and services even with the cost of living increases.
Under the current taxation format, we will see our taxes decrease only when the values of our property increase in Cowley county. Over the last twenty years, we've seen interest in increasing different types of taxes to help "diversify" our various funding streams.
That's why strong, local economic development policies are critical to the citizens of this county. Policies that attract business, beautify the city, increased levels of maintenance on existing structures and infrastructure, and diversify the economic base of the communities that exist in Cowley County.
We had a chance to help ourselves with this about a year ago. And our leaders failed us.
What policies have you seen put into place here to attract business by the way do you even notice how much of a fight from the building owners there was about replacing windows. In fact the city did not even give people a committee when they decided to tell you how wo keep your drive way did they. And what have they done with all the dirt roads around here, paving some of those would make cities look better.
In Ark Citythey said they didn't need a CM but then promoted one and gave him a raise. Why does everyone who works for the sheriff dept have to have a car at home, why don't they just use a light on the dash like the unmark vehicles and save us the cost of the car and insurance on them, don't they normally stay parked at the officers house.
In this socialistic community we need some one who will take charge and cut some fat here and not be afraid to put a god friend out of work or make them change occupation like S. Pailin did in that little town in Alaska
