Burr knocking

Gene Burr is out knocking on doors. He left a phamphlet in our door on C Street. The slogan says, "A common man who will work for the common good" It goes on to list his resume and general traits/goals he says he would bring to the office, such as good common sense, concern for education, health care for every Kansan, etc ..

What I found most interesting where the contrast statements ...has no further political aspirations, obligated to no organization or interest group, retired with no job to distract him.

These function as indirect references to Kasha Kelley, who, true or not, is believed to aspire for higher office, has been criticized, (or applauded, depending on your view) for close ties to Americans for Prosperity, and is CEO of First Intermark.

Seems like Gene is trying to define himself as an everyman with people's pocketbook needs in mind, untainted by the political process. My guess is that Kasha will tout her legislative successes (transparency web site, stalking bill) and her votes to keep spending in check and bring tax relief, which ressonate in tough political times. She also has the second amendment credentials and "marriage protection" vote to bolster her social conservative record, which goes a long way in these parts ....

Haven't seen any ads or literature of hers yet .....

I fully support Kasha Kelly. She has done a great job and cares about state spending. She has tried to pass a cap on Medical Malpractice suits, wrote the stalking law and got it passed after Greta Goodwin tried to stall it. Greedy Greta wanted to get her "name" on it too. And most importantly to me...she believes in our right to defend ourselves and homes. With the passing of "No Duty To Retreat" laws we now have conceal carry and NFA arms.
THANK YOU KASHA!

I just looked up Americans for Prosperity.

http://www.americansforprosperity.org/index.php?state=ks

They appear to have an agenda of lower taxes, more responsible spending, and limited government. I don't get it. IF that is it, I can't see why it would be anything other than a badge of honor for them to support a candidate because that candidate holds views that are in agreement with that way of seeing things.

Go Mrs. Kasha Kelly! Keep up the good work for us in Topeka.

Ditto the above, you go, Kasha!

I think most of us would be more than happy with less taxes, less government involvement in our lives all the way around -- and, my friends, those are the values she holds dearly.

And, yes, what the reader found on Americans for Prosperity is absolutely true. It's worked well in other states.

Seems Burr is campaigning hard and dirty. His personal jabs at Kelley are pretty direct. It's bad enough that politics have become so ugly at the national level; didn't think I'd see that in local elections. So sad.

It's very apparent that this race is between a Far-Right Conservative and Moderate Democrat.

Burr's door to door campaign seems to be working very effectively. My coffee shop conversations and the idle occasional eavesdropping seem to have him in good stead with a growing number of Ark Citians.

I see nothing dirty in Burr's campaign material nor have I heard anything dirty coming from his campaign. I do see and hear him pointing out the differences between he and Ms. Kelley. I thought that's what elections were about (the differences in candidates rather than the likenesses).

I'll be voting for difference makers during this election...and Kelley certainly hasn't been about anything different during her term. She's aligned with the KRA and the far Right of Kansas. And she is proud of that alignment. Good for her.

I want Kansas to return to the Middle and move away from the extreme Right. For me...to achieve that goal...the vote could not be more obvious. I'll be joining thousands more in this community whom Mr. Burr has met (or known for years) and listened to. I'll be joining them in voting for Burr.

Why is it when you are a Democrat everyone that is Republican is on the far right? I think this election will go down about like the sheriff race-- Kasha doesn't have much to worry about. Do you really think thousands in Ark City are going to vote for Burr? We'll be lucky to get "thousands in Ark City" to vote in the presidential election. But good try. These blogs are too funny!

I haven't heard anything about what Burr is for, only what he doesn't like about Kelley.

Are you arguing that Kasha Kelley isn't Far Right? Please don't try to tell the world she's a moderate...

You want to know what Gene Burr is for...ask him. He'll be the one knocking on your door in the near future, apparently.

Do you really want to tell me your a moderate? I suppose you think Obama is a moderate Democrat too?

Lower taxes, limited government - that far right is just crazy!!!! What are we thinking?

Perhaps the remark about Burr playing dirty politics was wrong; I think the correct word is negative, very negative. It shows up quite clearly in his literature.
Negative isn't quite as ugly as "dirty", but negative is not good!

Is lying about someone's accomplishments, character, and core beliefs negative or dirty? I'm ready for some definitions here. The democrats have become very good at telling us what the definition of "is" is.

IT IS DIFFICULT NOT TO TAKE OFFENSE WHEN GENE BURR OR ONE OF HIS SUPPORTORS ATTEMPTS TO DOWN PLAY WHAT KASHA HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE HIM SEEM MORE THAN HE IS. WHEN MR BURR AND HIS WIFE WERE DOING SOME DOOR TO DOOR CAMPAIGNING AND THEY STATED TO A CITIZEN "LOOK CLOSER AT WHAT SHE (KASHA) HAS DONE THAT IT IS NOT ENOUGH AND THEY NEED GENE IN THERE TO FIX IT" I FIND THAT MISLEADING AND DISHONEST AT BEST. WHY NOT TALK ABOUT WHAT GENE IS PLANNING TO DO AND HOW HE PLANS TO ACCOMPLISH IT. TOO BAD WE DON'T HAVE SITES SUCH AS SNOPES TO CLARIFY THE POLITICAL CRAP ON THE LOCAL LEVEL.

It seems CURIOUS is a angry and confused person with blurred vision. Perhaps they need a trip to their local pharmacy and then a trip to their eye doctor for glasses to help them see the truth better. A pair of ear plugs to help them from eavesdropping might be in order as well. I was taught not to eavesdrop that it is rude, wrong and bad manners.

Political crap on the local level goes both ways. Both candidates may be sincere and good people but both are allowed to have different approaches and different beliefs.

Kasha is conservative and Gene is more moderate and yes I have talked to both. People have to vote on what they want. Many bad people have been elected to office by many good people who chose not to vote. What will you do?
