Inauguration parties?

Anybody having an Inauguration Party or doing anything special for the event? We're looking to localize the story.

Uh, why?

Read these two interesting stories from 2005:
http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2005/01/20/media_on_inauguration

and

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/16/politics/16tone-top.html?_r=1

4 years ago people were complaining on how much the inauguration was going to cost, and how fancy it was, especially w/ Iraq going on. Now, here we are, 4 years later, Iraq still going on, economy in the toilet (worst it has been since the 1930's), and the party is even going to be bigger and more expensive, and Bush asking for $15 Million for security today. And NO ONE is complaining about it (well, except me I guess).
The election of Pres-Elect Obama was a great thing; so was the election of the 44 presidents before him. It is only those people who are "looking" for something different about the man who are making it a big deal. So what if he is an African-American? What if he had been an Asian-American, who was also a Republican? Or a homosexual? Or an Hispanic Lesbian? Are we, as a nation, going to go completely goofy and ga-ga just because the new president-elect is not a white man, and make a really big deal about it?
As for me, I have to work on Tuesday, so I will not be watching it live. Lucky for me, the press will be talking about it for the next 48 hours afterwards, and you will write about the awesome Inauguration parties Ark City has for our new President, who, by the way, is just a junior Illinois senator.

The sad thing about having Poor George leave the office is that the right wing media and cronies will now have a huge target on Obama. We will hopefully have to put up with them for a while. They sure were quiet the last 5 years, huh?

It is quite clear to me that the majority of people in this state and who read and post on this blog see a man who is not white and then give the man no chance at all. They immediately hate him. And that is as complex as the real story is.

I will be at the inauguration. Well, at least I am going to try.

That man's race has absolutely nothing to do with why i don't like his policies.

It did get him elected however.

If I remember to turn my TV on we will watch.

Not really in to mass venues. Instead of attending a concert I'd just as soon purchase the CD.

There is only ONE race - the HUMAN one. Some of us have more or less pigment than others.

It is interesting to observe the glaring silence of spending 150 million dollars on an event that will last around a minute.

I'm not aware of any local parties, but the number of liberal people I hang with is limited to this venue.

This is a very interesting article on the cost of the Obama inauguration versus previous ones.

A hilight for those too lazy or busy to read the entire article:

Obama's inauguration is costing us 150 million dollars, as compared to George W. Bush's 2005 inauguration costing $42.3 million. And Bill Clinton's was $33 million in 1993.

And we eren't even in a recession then like we are now. This Obama character has quit a big head me thinks. Thinks quite highly of himself I guess to spend our money in such a way when there are much better places to spend it.

Guess what - things cost more than they did in the past.

And more people are going to this inauguration because they are excited about the new president - so they need more security and facilities set up for the people.

But I know it makes you feel good to blame Obama, so go ahead.

So, it's just inflation then? wow, you have the IV firmly implanted don't ya?!

No, if you look at the breakdown of the cost, public safety is eating the vast majority of that up. That's what happens when people actually want to attend an inauguration. They locked that city down for a week and made sure that nobody was hurt. Did any body get hurt? (besides the feelings of those who voted McCain...)

I saw an interesting article on how everyone left their trash, and how bad it looked afterwards. Kinda speaks to the people who voted for Obama.

Has anyone happened to see Ark City after Arkalalah ?? Doesn't speak much better of us , does it ! Stop whining and see how you can help make this a better community. If you're not doing your part how can you criticize someone who has achieved the Presidency..Grow up !!

It (the trash) probably wasn't any worse than after a professional football game, and whens the last time you had 1.5-2 million people at a sporting event? I'd be more concerned about the foot traffic to the grounds around the National Mall. It's just grass, but that was a lot of people to walk around on it (been there, it is a beautiful place to talk on a fall day).

Cold temps lead to coffee consumption, maybe a couple hot dogs...leads to trash.

Did your source say that the trash was out of the trash cans? Perhaps the cans were full and the litter was next to the cans.

What a moron....
