Arrest secrecy

For some reason, Kansas officials are scared to release the subpoenas officials file to get arrest warrants to the public. Most states do this, and it shines light on what law enforcement is doing to justify arresting citizens. But Kansas is being mossback on this and sticking to secret ways that engender distrust and distance between authorities and citizens.

The media and other first amendment interests will keep fighting for this, I'm sure.

This is sort of off topic but I have a question concerning the release of names. You will notice on Newscow today the first information released involving a motorcycle wreck a couple days ago. It was a hit and run and was right up on summit street- why aren't any of the names of those involved being released? There is also a story about a meth lab oin the 600 block of 4th with no names, yet often names are plastered everywhere, with pictures. Why the secrecy here? What makes releasing names in one story notable, and not in another? Isn't that discrimination? What gives anyone that right- including the police department, newspapers, etc???? Please enlighten me on this.

David Allen Seaton also believes the names of those that have Concealed Carry permits should be available to the press too. Criminals, those besides the press and the Seatons, don't need to know.

Why does the press want to pry so much into peoples lives ? It's not your business !

For your information, it is the press's job to try to print public knowledge information. So tell me, are you saying you don't care who around you is carrying a concealed weapon as long as some 'authority' said they pass the test and should be allowed? Whatever, there are people working positions all over this town that aren't qualified- God forbid they're all allowed to carry guns. Its an awareness thing and you should appreciate it instead of being afraid that someone find out you are a secret gun nut.
I think there is some confusion here folks, because from what I understand David Allen publishes information that is available to the public or sent to the paper via press releases. Sometimes city agencies (like the police department) are super secretive about one thing and can't wait to spread the news about others, while it would seem like biased reporting, I think you will find that it is the police department not the paper that is doing that. If you think about it, it is obvious, David Allen would love to have every little tidbit available- not because he is nosy, but because it is his job to report the news- you'd be bitching if he didn't.

Concealed carry permits are NOT public information, and should not be made public. Although, that would be a wonderful tool for would be robbers or thieves, or home invaders.

Do you gun banners even think before you talk?

The whole idea behind concealed carry is that it reduces crime by the criminals not knowing if they might be attacking someone who is ready and able to defend themselves. If you make concealed carry records public, the criminals can just look up who would make the best victim. Nect thing you know, you will want to have gun registration, which would tell them what houses are unable to protect themselves, and therefore better to rob.
