Tax increases on the table?

Guess you can talk about tax increases if you aren't running for re-election. Some people are reflexively against raising taxes of any kind, but with the state in the budget hole its in, they should at least be part of the discussion. Gov. Parkinson is being a responsible elected official by stating this early on in the process.

why dont we all jus give 100% of our money to the government and see how they get us in even more debt? Raising taxes is not the solution. cut government spending. tax cuts helps with job creation too. its called common sense. why should the tax payer bail out irresponsible decision making?

The state may be in trouble and need to raise taxes, however the anwser to ballanced budgets is not raiseing taxs, it is learning to do business within your budget.
Most government agencys have had drastic budget cuts, yet we still see a multitude of governement waste and unessasary spending, today police departments are soaking up funds at an astonishing rate, they have learned from the Bush administration how to sell budget request on fear,,,, if they can scare the common citizen with anaquaited possibilities they generaly will pull down the purse and open the bank.

I really can't get on board with this crap. Really taxes keep going up and for some reason we still are always in the hole. WHAT THE (Y)ELLLLL!!! It doesn't make any sense to me but what do I know I have to keep handing my money over like an idiot. I am fed up really. I am so close to jumping on the Obama plan. Quit my job move somewhere cheap. Impregnate women with no intention of raising children, get on welfare, and have what he claims will be solid/good and cheap health care, sit at home and drink beer and smoke pot all day. wheew what a life.

I agree with you, he is being responsible for discussing the shortfalls! But that is it!! A recent article in your paper stated that there have been an increase in state wide gov. jobs to a total of 4 THOUSAND more gov. workers! WHY? Recently saw on the TV news that a poll indicated that a very large number (I don't recall the % or actual number) of college presidents are now rec'ing over $1 MILLION in salary. Sounds like fiscal responsibility towards curbing overall spending could gain ground by looking closer at these two areas of spending alone!!

this government has gotten the better of me! I quit my job, and am now going to be behind David Allen 1000% as he tries to sell the liberal view that gov. is here to take care of us! It will take a while, but eventually they will send me money to pay the taxes I owe on my home and cars, won't have income taxes, but I will need to have them help me buy my gas so I can go to the doctor.

Hey David Allen. Have you ever considered hiring at least one conservative journalist for your paper? I'm not asking to be sarcastic, I'm really interested. It seems that being a little more balanced would be the way to go. At least in the editorials and opinion sections. Again, this is a serious question, I'm not trying to be rude.

Thanks Ray for your question and sorry for the very late response.

We do have a a balance of liberal, moderate and conservative columnist on the op-ed page. Cal Thomas and Kathleen Parker fall under the "conservative" category, according to their syndicate. Parker might be a little more independent than "conservative." We are also working to get Charles Krauthammer on the page.

We also welcome and encourages letter to the editor from any political view. Ditto for the community blog page on our site. Be great if somebody local, conservative, liberal or whatever, wanted to start a blog and link to arkcity.net

Let me know how to link a blog to arkcity.net and I will. I would love to interact with the community better. Charles would be a great addition. Thanks for answering my post, it lets me know a little about your character.
