I'm going on KPTS's Kansas Week today. Channel 8 around here. Show airs at 7:30. Topics are:

1. Parkinson's call to consider tax increases to balance the budget
Not gonna happen

2. Sarah Palin speaking at Salina Chamber of Commerce
Probably torque some members of the chamber but will draw huge crowd

3. Tea Party rally in Wichita this week
They're going to save us from communism, or is it socialism, or is it nazism? One of the isms

I'll try not to disappoint my liberal base
:)

Your liberal base? Isn't that a bit of an exaggerated term for two supporters? I think you are using the word liberal very liberally.

Sarah Palin and the Tea Party are one and the same. If it weren't for them, politics would be very boring indeed.

Still don't know what they stand for:
Anti-abortion. That means just politicians pandering to the religious far-right for votes. Do you think any of the politicians really care?
Lower taxes. Well, heck yeah, why not?
But for the most part, they have to watch the news just like you and me to find out what they are for (or more importantly *what they are against*)
They have to see what the dems did today to know their next step.
The tea party: If the dems are for it then we are against it.
This is not political leadership.

The most effective candidate the Democrats could run in the next election is Sarah Palin.
I suspect that some of her support is from democrats.

Here is a poll question: If Sarah Palin were running against a golden tamarin monkey in the Wichita Zoo, who would you vote for? (presuming they both wore stylish glasses)

I'm for Palin. It makes political sense.
How about you, and why?

LOL...It's funny that the first Anon post took your comment seriously.

I watched it and you seemed pretty middle of the road. I would have loved to hear a better response from the guy in Topeka when the Christian Press dude asked him why he was surprised that Christians would support the TEA party efforts. He gave a good response that was right on point but he could have cited one of the 2,000+ verses that don't merely suggest, but rather command that one responds to the needs of the poor. Overall, it was interesting to watch.

Your liberal base? In Ark City? Man, I bet you wish your parents had owned a newspaper in a more liberal part of the country that they could have left you instead of here in the good old Republican state of Kansas.

Maybe you could go work your way up at a liberal paper somewhere.

Then again, that takes talent. Oh well.

I don't know where anon at 12:04 comes up with the no liberals in Ark city comment?! The commission openly encourage neighborhood organization, they spend money like there is no tomorrow, referring to fed. money as 'free money', and have promoted the infusion of 'new' citizens to the point that AC is very much a sanctuary city!!

Pretty liberal if you pay attention!!

I wish I could have seen it, but was unable to. Wes, you sure must know your bible good?!! Are there really 2000+ versus that 'command' a response to the poor? WOW!How about just listing one percent of those so that we might become enlightened as you are. I'm sure that you will be unable to do so, but be careful to suggest that this government is pursuing health care reform out of a sense of Christian duties. One percent would only be 20 versus, so, in the event that you were just exaggerating, maybe you can respond by saying so.

LOL...an "Anonymous" poster calling me a liar. How's that for irony.

OK "Anon," here are just a few of the commandments found in the Bible regarding the poor, let's just call it the tip of the iceberg (Yeah, I know...it's not 1%, but it will suffice for this post):

Deut. 15:7 - If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.

Deut. 26:12 - When you have finished paying the complete tithe of your increase in the third year, the year of tithing, then you shall give it to the Levite, to the stranger, to the orphan and the widow, that they may eat in your towns, and be satisfied.

Lev. 19:19 - Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the LORD your God.

Prov. 31:8 - (A Commandment to kings.) Open your mouth for the dumb, for the rights of all the unfortunate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.

Is. 58:66 - Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Jer. 22:3 - Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor. Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow; and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

Luke 12:33 - Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys.

Luke 3:11 - And John the Baptist would answer and say to them, "Let the man with two tunics share with him who has none, and let him who has food do likewise.

Mt. 5:42 - Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

Continue???? There are about 300 verses that speak directly of the "poor." If you throw "Needy," "charitable," or any other word that is equivalent of "poor" into the mix, you will have more than 2,000. The message is very simple... help the poor or needy. It's not hard to understand, it's just hard to do, especially if you belong to the GOP it seems. "Anon," you must have been reading a lot into what I posted, I don't recall saying that the govt was pursuing health care reform for religious purposes.

I guess you think putting 'Wes' on your postings makes you brave?!You still didn't address the question. I have read the Bible, EVERY WORD IN IT, and unless you are referring to maybe the koran, you were exaggerating! You chose to use the word liar.

Wes said...

No, that's not what makes me brave. I do not refer to anything in this post but the Bible. And in it, there are over 2,000 verses that call for the reader to respond to the needs of the poor. No exaggeration made in that claim. This is something you should already know if what you say is true. Let me put the ball back in your court by asking you to prove me wrong, please provide 1% of the verses that prove me wrong...

I bet it must be tough on "Wes" when he walks through a big city. Seeing as how he has to stop and give money to every beggar he comes across.

You do what you want with your money, but don't force me to give money to lazy people when it could be put to much better use. I donate to charities, but they are charities of my choosing, not the governments.

And the bible is BS.

Anonymous said...

you ask for a sample, Wes gave you what you ask for, NICE JOB WES, why call him a liar anyway. You ask for it he gave it to you, are you never satisfied, you sir are an infection

How exactly would the person disprove your statement of 2,000 verses telling to give to the poor? Should they list every other verse in the bible? Why don't you prove them wrong by posting all 2,000 verses that say we should give to the poor? It shouldn't take you more than 4 or 5 days.

And I'm curious, does the poor you speak of include the lazy people who could get off the couch and get a job, but refuse to because they think they deserve something for nothing? Or does it refer to people who are unable to care for themselves because of age or illness or mental faculties?

http://home.snu.edu/~HCULBERT/poor.htm

I may not be great with numbers, but that doesn't look like 2,000 to me.

Here is something much more interesting: A list of how many your god has killed in the bible.

Man...now I'm sorry I even mentioned anything. It's there to be found and I don't necesarily have the need of proving myself to anybody. Good luck.
