School cuts

I still think state lawmakers should consider getting rid of some tax exemptions, on sales or equipment, perhaps, to soften the blow to schools, prisons, health programs, etc. Be too bad to start reversing the good trends at USD 470 if they had to cut academic support people and even classroom teachers.

They WILL cut classroom teachers and it will be a huge loss to our community. The issues are serious, the cuts will be deep and it will take a long time to rebuild the staff and morale that we now have.

True that we are unable to use money for the facilities for staff, books, etc. but we voted in lots of money to pay for a football field for four or five games for a few kids a year. Time to quit patting ourselves on the back and proudly boasting about facilities...they are not as important as staff.

Is this district willing to consider a way to raise money to save education for all kids for their entire future?? What can our administration offer...no side stepping this issue and don't look to the state. Teachers will be asked to take pay and benefit cuts but that is not the solution...come on leaders be proactive NOW

I think our lawmakers should realize that each time they cut eduction it will cost us a LOT more in the future. I seriously believe it could cost us businesses from locating in the state b/c of a poor education system due to cuts. Students will be ill prepared for college and/or votech programs and even life.

Yes our state needs to watch its spending during these tough times but lets consider the overall costs to us...now and later.
