Historic

Obama at his best ....

President Obama predicts that years from now, people will wonder "why was there ever a source of controversy in the first place."

Gay troops fought at Gettysburg and at Iwo Jima, Obama says. "Their names are etched into the walls of our memorials. Their headstones dot the grounds at Arlington," he says. "So as the first generation serving openly in our armed forces, you will stand for all those who came before you. You will serve as role models for all who come in. I know you will fulfill this responsibility with integrity and honor, just as you have every other mission." (9:32 a.m.)

Obama also delivers this message: "Your country needs you. Your country wants you. And we will be honored to welcome you into the ranks of the finest military the world has ever known."

When he visited Afghanistan a few weeks ago, Obama recalls, a woman grabbed him in a rope line and whispered to him, "Get 'don't ask, don't tell' done." He says he told her, "I promise you, I will."

"For we are not a nation that says, 'don't ask, don't tell,' " he says. "We are a nation that says, 'Out of many, we are one.' We are a nation that welcomes the service of every patriot. ... It is my honor to sign this bill into law." (9:35 a.m.)

You are the first to stand behind Obama.

Obama doesn't even know the complete Preamble or the national motto.

But you keep following him. Just don't stand too close. He might misinterpret your adoration.

Michelle might not like it either.

Don't celebrate too much :

"Pentagon officials caution that activists' elation over the bill could be premature, since service chiefs have to complete implementation plans before lifting the old policy. They also have to certify that it won't damage combat readiness, as critics charge, and draft guidelines to cover a host of practical questions, like how to handle sexual orientation in making barracks assignments."

From a REAL news source.

The Marine Commandant won't bend over so easily.

You might actually be right!
Obama is at his best while being THE WORST PRESIDENT in U.S. history.
I wonder how long its going to be before there is a complaint about not being promoted or there are no Gay Generals? Then, we will certainly have to appoint one regardless of qualifications!

Gay or Straight has no PLACE in the Military or at the workplace, School, .......... .

The Public/Government sector for some reason has become a safe harbor for Gays! (See Liberals for answer!)

Can anybody remember what just happened in the Catholic Church as the result of Gay Priest? (You know the leaders of those churches.)

Oh, it will turn out different this time its the military!

Obama is at his best best being the WORST PRESIDENT ever in the U.S.

Didn't Jimmy Carter just say America is ready for a "GAY" president?

I rest my case!

When will recruiters & ROTC be allowed back on liberal college campuses...probably NEVER.

When I was a kid in Ark City it was Catholics. When JFK was elected it was *such a big deal* that America elected a Catholic president. It all seems so stupid now. About every day in Ark City you would hear part of a whisper campaign about how the sneaky catholics were up to something evil. And the jews, the blacks and the gays, although they called them something very different then (as they do in Ark City behind closed doors today).
The British guy who deciphered the German Enigma encryption code and helped the U.S. to end WWII was found out to be gay and was stripped of his military security clearance and forced into chemical castration. He committed suicide. He is now considered to be the inventor of the modern computer.
I wonder if there might be another brilliant, useful person who will receive an outcome like that because of pig headed and bigoted narrowmindedness.
Trust me. The Army won't promote you because you are gay. They don't and shouldn't care.
It sounds like people are afraid that these guys are going to be playing drop the soap in the showers. If so, you don't know anything about the military. The military is more about R. Lee Ermey (a Kansan, BTW) than Harvey Fierstein.

Also, Obama doesn't need a law to make it so. The president has two titles. Higher rank than a General. He is depending on the will of the people as expressed through an elected representative Congress to determine the outcome.

Truman integrated the military with an executive order, which Obama could have done with DADT if he wanted to.

"July 26, 1948: Army staff officers state anonymously to the press that Executive Order 9981 does not specifically forbid segregation in the Army." sound familiar?

Truman had to fight the generals, mainly Omar Bradley, and the Marine Corps, but he got it done. No law needed.

Out of that long post and related history - I never did once figure out what being "openly gay" as allowed by the repeal of DADT - has to do with the Military?
Other than to specifically designate someone as different!
Then allow them to get or have special consideration and/or treatment!

It's all about their (the Gay activist) and Obama's agenda!

I think Obama once again misjudged the real will of the People!
Just like he did with Obamacare, just like he did with the mid term election and just like he is with the incoming Majority of the NEW House!

So, it's off to Hawaii and another vacation!

I wonder how those who are simply struggling to make ends meet feel about him? Today?

Two years into his Presidency and we are just NOW talking about Job creation!

The First Year was spent on Healthcare (Obamacare)! No doubt as a personal agenda on his part and to avenge his mother's woes with Health Insurance companies!

The second year was filled with misdirections and reactions to specific events! (The Gulf oil spill, earthquakes, gays in the Military and the like to side step the real issues! Like Jobs?)
Culminating in a landslide election in favor of his opposition.

I wonder when he will decide to deal with the issues that really effect the majority of Citizens!
(Well, the Bush tax cuts was a start! But without Republican opposition to just letting them end I doubt it would have happened.)

Party on O-man!

Interesting how the local bigots criticize the President for not dealing with issues such as jobs creation without ever reading the venom that comes from their own minds.

How much of this flap is just bigoted hate before anyone even mentions jobs. Actually, the post that enumerated his first two years was helpful.

He is getting something done despite the bigotry. We would rather see our nation fail than to see our current President succeed.

Listen to yourselves. The new R majority is only talking about what they undo of the President. None are offering any specific or meaningful plans or ideas to accomplish something other than fighting that N in the Whitehouse.

What was so wrong with don't ask don't tell? Do you ask and tell people about your sex life at work? Do you have seperate bathrooms for gays? What difference does it make, other than the gays want to stand out and get attention as part of a political agenda to try to force the country to accept them as equals when it comes to marriage and the law of spouses. This is all just a ploy.

When do the pedophiles get to serve openly in the military? after all, they are supposedly born that way too.

"To keep repeating that tired old argument is not only incredibly ignorant, but destructive to race relations in this country."

Wow. Where do I start?
The only reason anyone gets to be President is because they get more support at the party level and receive more caucus votes and electoral college votes, representing the popular votes through the state caucuses.

It is how almost all Presidents are elected with the exception of Bush II who was elected on the basis of a court ruling because of the close votes in Florida.

I'm a little amused that you assert that you are concerned about the damage to race relations in the U.S.

Isn't claiming that the only reason he was elected was because he was black a bit of a stretch?

It completely ignores the fact that Obama got 10 million more votes than his nearest competitor, John McCain.

I might agree that the reason he is President is that he outspent the competitor, that McCain was too scary or too old, or that the general public didn't sign onto Sarah Palin or whatever, but because Obama was black?

I'm not sure you are the best guy to look out for interests of race relations in the country, if you know what I mean.

If it walks like a duck and most certainly quacks like a duck then........

I guess by your assumption - there are NO BLACK Republicans?

Part of Obamas draw was his ability to persuade people he had a better Plan! That turned out to be SOCIALISM like in Europe!

He also had the advantage of the Financial Meltdown that was the result of BOTH PARTIES!

He has tried to fulfill all the promises to all his supporters - many who were/are minority groups!
(What about the majority?)

He has a dislike for those of wealth and even business and corporations! (The Government should own/run/regulate the Private Sector!)

He wants to redistribute their wealth as a means to distribute equality! (Tell me who is the biggest promoter of In-equality?
If you answered Government you are Correct!)

Lets see - if we bring the top groups down through the use of Government, taxes, programs etc.? We will then raise the standards for the bottom groups?

What about raising the standards of the bottom groups back into the middle class by conventional methods? Such as jobs, education and rewarding personal accountability/responsibility?

There are people in other countries who are willing to do anything to have just one glimpse at the opportunites we have in America!

But to Obama America isn't special/exceptional - to him we we need to follow those countries path!

I think he and his cohorts need to run those other countries!

Notice all the resistance to the complaint of bigotry prompts criticism of folks. A bigot is an indictment against an attitude and not a class indictment against an entire race.
.
The rebuttal once again reinforces the mindset that race is either the lone qualifier or disqualifier when it pertains to black folks.

leaves me confused.nh

bigot (plural bigots)

1. one who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices
2. one who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Pretty much sums up Ark City.
Funny how the only blogs that get any mileage here are the ones where people bash gays, hispanics or blacks.

It's been almost 2 months since "God spoke" and gave us more republicans in our government....where are the jobs republicans?????

LOL. How about we let them take office first before we start throwing stones? For those who are ignorant of the way congress works, they won't be seated until January, 2011.

When the republicans were in charge at the end of the Bush administration, between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.

Job losses have now stopped and the economy is moving toward recovery from Bush's crash.

Can't wait to see what kind of clever turnaround the republicans have in mind for when they take office in January.

Democrats have had the majority in congress since 2006. That includes the last two years of Bush's Presidency.

Check your facts.

It's not the fact check that's the problem. It's the spin check.

Note how Congress was responsible for Bush's failure but this president is to be blamed for everythin. Earlier, someone mentioned tha we must wait for the new Congress to be seated.

In December 2008, folks were already blaiming the new President for the nation's woes and demanding immediate results. He too took office in 2009. AND....
the criticism greetd him even in the inauguration.

On my Christmas wish list? Some of you haters to finally acknowedge him as "President" Obama.

We had to embrace President Bush as "the decider" through eight years of "nucular" threats

2006?
Wow! That just goes to show you just how stupid those democrats must be. They let republicans Hastert and Frist pretend to be Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader in 2006 when it really should have been a democrat because they were in the majority.
Boy, talk about being stupid and not knowing the rules of politics. Those stupid democrats really laid an egg on that one.
No wonder the country is so messed up!!

You're right, they were elected in 2006, but didn't actually take office till 2007. The Democrats have had a super majority in the last congress, AND they have the White house, AND they have been able to pass every single bill they have wanted to pass, yet somehow it is STILL George Bush's fault that we have such a bad economy? Or is it because Obama is black? Because we all know us racist republicans only dislike Obama because he's black. It has nothing to do with his liberal agenda or his insane spending practices. Like adding more to the national debt in a year and a half than Bush did in EIGHT YEARS!
Your party was slapped down HARD by the American people. Get over it already.
