Wikileaks and all that ....

I find it hard to get upset about media outlets reporting on "secret" government documents that reveal communication and true relationships between the U.S. government and other countries.

I suppose much of this stuff that was leaked to the Web site Wikileaks and then given to the New York Times and other media across the globe is more gossipy and truly newsworthy.

But some of it is very newsworthy - the fact that a Saudi Arabia officials suggested U.S. bomb Iran and the Saudi's would take responsibility for it. You mean the public shouldn't know this is the kind of people we are dealing with?

Govt. officials and those who think secrecy and security always go hand in hand are foaming over this, but that's what happens when government officials who don't want the public to know what's going on get outted and embarrassed.

In my view we need MORE of this kind of thing, not less. I haven't heard of anything that really will put our security at risk or harm individuals. (perhaps there is and I've missed it) Sounds to me like the news outlets involved have been fairly responsible in what they are reporting.

And whoever "stole" or leaked these documents should be protected by whistleblower laws. There is a real courage necessary to bring to light what you think the public should know about wrong doings or truths your government is hiding.

Certainly sometimes privacy and secrecy by govt. trumps disclosure, esp. in times of war. But sometimes it certainly does not. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

Here's a great defense, really, of the leaks and the media's use of them on FOX News, even, and by the New York Times Editor, Bill Keller.

It is espionage & if it puts our young men & women who volunteered for military service in harms way they should go to jail.

Do you know what Abraham Lincoln would do ?

You really do live in your own little World! Don't you?

Do you think Putin is our best
buddie?

Or Chavez?

Or Castro?

and on and on .........

Maybe we can be glad that there are those in the CIA and other agencies who are out there protecting our interest at home and abroad!

You probably think Blackwater was a terroist Group! Do you have any idea the type of people they had to deal with? People who put bombs on innocent children!

I bet you would be shocked if you only knew half of what they really KNOW!

And

I'm sure you be shocked if you knew about all their toys (tools)!

Let them do their JOB!

Wiki-leaks is a low-life loser trying to make a name for himself at the expense of other people!

Tell me why he hides if he's so BRAVE!

Btw: Here's a hypothetical question for you:

Remember that kid with the bomb strapped on his body?

He is going to be sacrificed -

Would you kill him to save your own life?

It's pretty easy to sit in the safety of a small town in Kansas and pass judgement!

Now what if those same kind of people were HERE?

Ones who don't share our values or even the value Human Lives!

Hmm, I guess you wouldn't have minded if the Nazis and the Axis knew all about the Manhatten Project as well. Everyone pretty much knows the Germans were looking into a atom bomb. But if they had known we were making one (or our progress in one, it might have escalated their efforts. they already had the rocket technology down with the V-2. They might have had the first ICBM by 1945. What do you think Roosevelt and Stalin would have done if Hilter lobbed a 20k-tonne warhead into London (Churchill wouldn't have cared, as he would have been a smoking pile of radioactive dust).
There is a reason they execute people for treason. Since this dude from Wikileaks is a foreignor, the US can't really do anything to him, but I beleive INTERPOL should be able to do something, since the guy violated laws in other countries as well, not just ours. Think the guy would have a fair trial in Saudia Arabia? Especially after he leaked that they were trying to get us to attack Iran. This might put the Saudi's in a negative light in the Arab world.

David "And whoever "stole" or leaked these documents should be protected by whistleblower laws."

What were stole are secretes of the state not some side line scandal or can't you tell the difference. No its all sensationalism to you the consequences are secondary.

Did he steal the secrets or did he have someone inside that gave them to him????

By the way I'm impressed the editor would something to agree with on fox news.
