Health care watch

Another year, another 20 percent hike in health insurance cost. Our newspaper company's insurance rep. says they want 20 percent increases for the same coverage. A public health insurance option, similar to Medicare, to compete with these monopolies sounds pretty good right now.

Will you lose the entire group to the public option, or will each individual be able to opt out? Are these group plans experience rated by group? What are the out of pocket costs under your current plan? Have you tried to obtain alternative quotes from other private insurers? If the government plan passes, will you have to pay taxes on the portion of premium paid by your employer?

There are many questions to consider. I can understand the frustration felt by such cost increases, but if a government plan passes, and if the cost increases you now face in the private sector are legitimate, what private insurance companies will be able to compete at all? Then, will it become a truly socialized insurance system?

The governments job is not to take care of us,( contrary to the claims made in the movie being shown in our schools- "The Story of Stuff"). I love this country because of my freedom to choose, and it is painfully obvious that our near sighted solutions will result in long term loss of that freedom!

I think most folks, in a moment of honest reflection would acknowledge that they are more disgusted with getting annual increases in premiums coupled with more restrictive payouts than they are with any proposal coming forth from the Whitehouse or Congress.

It makes me appreciate the teaching moment from Mount Pinatumbo and the frog in the pot experiment all the more.

We will stay in dangers way if the alternative is to move from our familiarities or accept change.

Just like the water temp going up for the frog, we will hug and cling tightly to our exploitive insurance conglomerates until we cannot afford the health in the health insurance premium - only the premium.

What WE need is for health insurance companies to be able to sell across state lines. Instead of only Coventry & Blue Cross to choose from we would have 300 more companies to compete for our dollars. Competition is what WE need.

Yes, maybe that would be great! Then we could maybe have a public run newspaper to conmpete with those monopolies, too!!

You must have been born into your job. Instead of just trying to push your political views on the public, maybe you should investigate the corruption going on at city hall, earn your pay for once in your life!!!
