Danger zone
When are Oklahoma and the tribes going to do something about the dangerous traffic problem created by large casinos along a two lane highway with no turn lanes?

The stretch of US77 from the state line to Newkirk should have been made a four lane long before the casinos were ever thought of. Turn lanes would be a bandaid at best but admittedly better than nothing. I don't know where Oklahoma spends their road money but it isn't on roads.
The problem is that people do ask the question, "How many more bad accidents or lives lost will it take?" The telling statistic is how many times does an alert driver with the right of way takes an evasive action to avoid a collision.
I would hazard that for every accident that has occured, 25 more were avoided because of defensive driving by pass through motorists.
Our safety training shows a metric of how many near misses occur on average before a negative event occurs.
Statistically, it is likely that a collision happens after a significant number of potential accidents took place. Most people ignore near misses and miss the warning of a hazard.
perfect liberal newsman-I say whatever happened to defensive driving? It's a congested area, signs warn of that and recommend reducing speed, but that's not good enough!! We expect someone else to cover the costs for our carelessness
Just curious but is it really the responsibility of the tribe to take care of this issue. Is the tribe in the business of transportation or would that fall under the duties of th OK. Dept. of Transportation? Just wonderin? Furthermore, I know I wouldn't be willing to throw money at any transportation issue as long as there are tons of dingdongs out there driving aroung with a stinking cell phone up by their face. At most I would say the tribe is only liable to bring up the concern to ODOT!! Although it would be lovely for a better system around there. Keep in mind Oklahoma roads in general though, they suck!!! It's not likely to happen anytime soon. In the meantime pay attention and watch out for careless drivers.
when are the people that are driving in that area going to show some common sense and exercise appropriate caution?
Is that an Okla. highway or is it a road that runs through tribal land?
I drive in Okla. all the time and can see little difference between the conditions of the roads as compared to Kansas!!
It's just like newsmen nowadays to complain after the fact instead of applying the pressure to the gov. through publications that would demand adequate foresight to avoid such issues. The same thing will inevitably happen north of town where our city officials plan on placing a new hospital that is to be accessed from a 70mph highway zone!! Maybe college graduates have gained so much knowledge that they have no room left for COMMON SENSE!!
