Oversold Tea?

I think this story from politico is about right. Tea Party has definitely had influence, but much of it is because of the media attention. The movement, if you can call it that, is an easy substitute for more complicated discussions, especially tv, cable and Web, because it fits into a nice narrative of opposition to the ruling leaders with good pictures, bad guys, good guys, etc...

You know you'll have to move quite a bit to the right to find the Middle!
I think that's where you'll find your readers and responses!
Let them tell you what they think!

Media is one of the most powerful things in the world if not the most important. If we did not have the media talking about the tea partiers, we probably wouldn't know anything about them.

I will agree that the TEA Party movement has been somewhat sensationalized by the media, and with the rederic of Beck, Hannidy, and Palin. I think they present some valid points (Taxed Enough Already, smaller government, less interferance). There just seems to be an extremely small group of extreme anti-government TEA-partiers (teabaggers as Mahar would say) that are getting the most attention. They make good news and headlines for the press, and scare the hell out of most normal people.
But I pose you this question. What is differnet between the war protests of the 1960's and the TEA Party Movement. What about the demonstrations of the 1968 Democractic convention? Haven't heard about any TEA Partiers getting beat up or killed (everyone is concerned about what the TEA Partier's are going to do).Is there a difference?

From the article:

"About a thousand people showed up in state capitals like Des Moines, Montgomery and Baton Rouge – and even fewer in large cities like Philadelphia, Boston and Milwaukee."

That's because they were at work!

Believe me, the movement you see at the rallies is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

Hey Mr. Editor why is your president doing campaign ads targeting only minorities? Does he not care about us white middle class people? I can't wait to hear your spin.
