Arkalalah politics

Lots of politicking at Saturday uptown at Arkalalah. Saw lots of Kasha Kelly stickers and her parade entry was probably the best of all the candidates on the cool four-wheeler jetting from side to side.

But Gene Burr had the most attention-grabbing tactic with the airplane message that I'm sure everybody saw. Didn't see much on the ground activity for Abrams and Goodwin.

I recall four years ago that Kasha had a huge presence at the parade and opponent Sid Regnier had none. Big mistake on his part, I think, that may have cost him at the polls.

She who throws the most candy wins! Betcha a snickers bar!

I'm thankful the election will be over soon.

Yeah, We'll why she was spending lot's on chocolate bars making more people fat... Gene used his money more wisely and bought air time in the bright beautiful blue skys! Keep the snickers bar, It can go to your hips and not mine.

is that who had the plane flying over? I couldn't tell what it said. All I saw was Burr sitting in a car, not even waving at people. No float, no pizazz, no nothing. Maybe if he'd spent his money more wisely, he'd get more votes.

Is this a joke? If you are going to be snakey, Atleast make sense. We get it, Your backing her, Atleast make the agurement wisely fought. NONE of the canidates HAD floats- Seriously we're you at the same parade? They ALL rode in cars of some type. I was also told that they had to stay in the cars and NOT get out because last year Kasha got out and was trying to shmooz to everything moving and had the parade held up for 20 minutes. And also thanks to her they had NEW stricter rules. Everyone I talked to knew what the sign said.. So maybe you should look into seeing an eye doctor.

"VOTE GENE BURR 4 REP DIST 79"

Let's face it, Gene got a good one in on Kasha and her supporters are mad. It was awesome when I looked up and saw it.

That 4-wheeler was second fiddle to that "watchamacallit" Abrams was riding.

He's not getting elected get over it. The plane isn't going to win it for him.

Historically speaking, I think former candidate Regnier was handed old information. It had been a long standing policy of the Arkalalah committee to not allow political entries. This practice apparently has been changed. The concern was referenced in a comment below regarding the Big Parade simply being reduced to political turf wars.

It if going to remain open for politicking, the committee should consider a significantly higher fee or some other performance requirement.

Arkalalah rules used to mandate that no candidate could even be in the parade. Only elected officials were in the parade and they had to be invited. The others allowed were allowed to put their name on the car and it could not say "vote for' or "elect." The parade was to be non-political and just fun...unfortunately, some committee in the past few years decided to either change or overlook the rules and now we get the politics everywhere we turn -all Arkalalah. They need to go back.

I thought only sitting elected officials were supposed to be in the parade. I didn't think challengers were even supposed to be able to be in it. Did you notice how Burr's people had to turn all of their shirts inside out. Now I read that he isn't even going to show up at the next forum. There's a bonafide hypocrite for you after all of his supporters made a fuss about who was and wasn't at the last one.

I heard that's not the only public event he's been invited to that he's backing out of. If he can't show up to events because he doesn't come across favorably how do you expect him to come across when he's reading notecards in Topeka?

Anonymous said...

Are we going negative..."you heard" but is that true. Could be you heard wrong....

I thought Kasha's entry was fun -- more in the Arkalalah vein! Sure shows creative thinking. And, I'm guessing the candy costs lots less than the airplane. C'mon folks, lighten up!

One more thing, it's interesting that the Dems make the biggest fuss about "going green" but the Republicans were in fuel efficient vehicles.

the plane was a last resort , i also could not read the sign , i thought best buy was having a sale , Kasha wins hands down so deal with it
i have

its true , she who throws the most candy bars wins , you will see , just wait , and that is not snakey as you called it , quit name calling Mr Burr

Now...let's get this completely straight.

Kasha's folks on this forum are griping about Burr being IN the parade? Give me a break....Burr's the only one who followed the rules for every candidate. Did anyone see Kasha throwing out candy? That's against the rules according to the County Clerk.

Campaigning within 250 feet of the "early voting" booth was strictly prohibited after 11:00AM. While Burr followed the rules and suspended his campaign at 11:00AM...Kasha Kelley sent her surrogates up and down the street with "Kasha Kelley walking billboards" right in front of the early voting booth.

Let's get REAL about who's the hypocrite here?

I guess for Kasha Kelley supporters...the end justifies the means. They'll break any rule in their lame attempt to maintain power.

VOTE GENE BURR!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I wish the Traveler would ask Kasha about her interpretation of the campaigning laws...

Anonymous said...

Actually, I sure think everyone enjoyed Kasha and her Dad having fun in the parade. What's the deal about candy, Curious -- didn't you see MANY people tossing candy? Guess you're feeling bad about being outdone.... and burning all those 'carbon footprints' with the airplane buzzing over.

The airplane idea was actually pretty cool, but the banner was difficult to read. Kasha got LOTS more bang for her bucks with the candy and cute car.

Anonymous said...

Burr's people threw candy too. What's the big deal? I was told Brooks shut him down because he was so close to the voting place. And puhleeze. The voting closed at 2 when the parade started. No one in the parade broke the rules, not even Mr. Burr with his candy. Anyways parades are about candy no matter who throws it. Man, you guyz can find a political demon behind every bush. crawl back under your rock and let the candidates and the rest of us have fun at our biggest frstival of the year. Political entries are like one one hundredth of the parade.

Anonymous said...

Candy is fine unless some kid scrambling for a piece falls under the wheels of a car. The reason the Arkalalah committee requests it be handed out.

Campaigning in front of an election site is also against the LAW of Kansas. What is good for one candidate needs to be good for all.

We could get back into a fight over if one breaks this little law what will happen in Topeka but is that really productive.

Arkalalah is fun and the politics should be removed so "fun" doesn't tempt people to go a little overboard. Those old rules were there for a reason but heck most of the guys on the this committee know nothing about those rules and don't seem to care.

Anonymous said...

Kasha has no ethics when it comes to campaigning. She doesn't have to follow rules, She's above them. Gene followed the rules of not having anything on his car or persons that said "elect or vote"... Shirts we're turned inside out and the words we're covered with tape.

I have lost ALL respect for Kasha, Do any of you people think that maybe the reason people don't like her is because she is shoved down our throat's! I opened the paper yesterday and on almost every page there was 2 advertisments. That's very disturbing to me.

And another reason why I have lost ALL respect for her is the way anyone who doesn't support her is treated. Her supporters have personally been really rude to me and people I know- And that reflects on her. I support Gene, But I don't have to be nasty and rude to show my support. You wouldn't catch me tearing a single Kasha thing up, It would be nice for her supporters to show that same respect.

Anonymous said...

Man, I guess I was in a cave and didn't know it. I've seen NO evidence of any of Kasha's supporters being rude. And, I DO know she would go face-to-face with any of her supporters who exhibited rudeness toward Burr, or anyone else. Whether or not you like Kasha, if you know her at all, you know her bottom line is integrity and being positive. I've not seen anything in her literature that even subtly attacks Burr.... not so with his literature!

I've not seen many rude comments by her supporters in these blogs, either. I've sure seen MANY by the band of Burr followers.

Admittedly, neither candidate has control over what their supporters write or say -- but I do think Kasha has set the tone for her followers to be positive and polite. I've heard many, many, many reports of negative remarks from the Burr camp -- especially by Mrs. Burr who seems to have a self-rightious, superior attitude. Some of his literature includes thinly disguised put-downs of Kelley, too. It should all be about the issues, not personal digs. Especially in local campaigns ...

Anonymous said...

Are you sure about all those parade rules? Many of us have not been aware of them.... were the candidates actually informed of what was and was not permissable?

Anonymous said...

We'll then...

Since you know Kasha so well maybe you should tell her the way they are acting and have her remind them how they should be treating people. I don't who all can take much more of her supporters crap... Like I said, I know personally the way I've been treated and other Burr supporters have been treated and it has turned me off from her and I would never vote for her. The thing that should be reminded is, We don't have to agree on anything- But that doesn't mean we should leave decency at the door. I know several things that happened over Arkalalah that Mrs. Kelley should be ashamed off, I would be upset with anyone if they had acted in that manner.

You can spin it all you want- But this isn't the first discussion about the way her supporters treat people.. And it won't be the last.

Just like when people we're screaming "kill him" and other racist remarks about Obama at McCain rallys- He didn't address it and it backfired..... He only addressed it when a fire was lit under him. National-local.. don't matter.. Be professional.

Kasha Kelley is a good, hard-working, moral person. She's only running so that she can try & help us. Leaving husband, child, family and business for Topeka. I for 1 appreciate it. She surely could find more fun things to do with her time. No one can find ONE letter or ad written by Kasha that in ANY way demeans or impugns Mr. Burr. Know why it can't be found? It doesn't exist.

Thank You, Kasha. You got my vote!!

Man, you Burr supporters need to calm down. I am undecided, but I'm leaning toward Keley just so I'm not associated with you.

Dear Blog Manager:

I see that you allow all this fluff talk about Kelley that has no evidence behind it but you ban the negative stuff said that has evidence behind it. Why is that? I have seen all sorts of smear attempts coming from the Kasha robots, robots who blindly follow her and yet you do not allow the negative comments about what Kasha does when she leaves her family and business behind to go to Topeka or what her family has done on her behalf here in AC. Are you afraid of being scooped or something?

Curious said...

Blog Manager:

I'm interested in more of what Anonymous #23 is referring to. I'd like to see some investigation from the local paper into those allegations. Is there a chance we will see any of that?

If they signed up for the parade they should have gotten a copy.

First I would like to express my opinion of negative and attacks of a personal nature coming from anonymous posters. It's tacky at best.

"you do not allow the negative comments about what Kasha does when she leaves her family and business behind to go to Topeka"

I believe David Allen has allowed many negative comments about Kasha's performance in Topeka.

Any negative comments of a personal nature would be speculative at best and have no place in politics and should not be legitimized by the press. Kasha and I disagree on many things but I have always found her to be polite, attentive, and genuinely interested in any opinion that differs from her own. If there was indeed conduct by those working on her behalf that she should be embarrassed of try contacting her and pointing it out. She can not act on that which she does not know. Of course, I guess it is easier to pull up to a computer and anonymously criticize those who have dedicated themselves to leadership than to practice a little yourself.

To Gene Burr: The air plane idea was great! Very innovative and reached a lot of people. Money well spent. In 18 years of going to Arkalalah that is the first time I have seen something like that.

Folks: politics should never be personal. It should be about performance. Who is best to suited to the entire spectrum of the job at hand. Please research each candidate and make an informed decision at the polls. Enough already of this "he said, she said" garbage. take the time to look at what is really important when you elect your leaders. Do this across the board and maybe, just maybe, we can have elected leadership that does truly pursue a single agenda. That being the benefit of the whole. Extremism has already damaged America enough.

Notice that you don't have to guess what my name is.

some of you people are really sick -- what is wrong with you?

Anonymous said...

Thank you John. Couldn't agree with you more. I wish you could moderate all local content that shows up on here, in the paper, on the airwaves, and in our mailboxes since some people aren't civil or polite enough to do it themselves.

Curious said...

John: you are a good middle man. Thanks for your calm demeanor.

Regarding the election itself...it appears that the Burr -Kelley race is perhaps the most contentious. That says a lot. I would have guessed it might have been Abrams....

Perhaps people do not want the other people on here to know who they are because they fear retribution of some sort or perhaps they have never taken the time to set up an account. Leadership is not allowing others to see who you are on blogs by the way...

John S.Mars said...

There is so much that obviously went WAY over your head.

Anonymous said...

you are right about contentiousness saying a lot. seems to me Kasha is the same person who ran 4 years ago when Sid ran. Sid ran a clean campaign and so did Kasha. there was no contentious nature to it. now there is a new candidate who is out of money and is probably afraid of losing. it is kind of like when someone just got beat up in a fair fight but they are embarrassed so they go and get a gun so they can "show them". it is that simple. when you can't win in a fair fight and you are a certain type of person you often see them resort to unseemly tactics like character defamation and whining about being rude and on and on. don't forget that liberals are never rude ;)

Anonymous said...

I agree; it seems Mr. Burr has brought the concententeiousness into the campaign. I've still not seen Kelley knocking him. Yes, I do agree that some of her supporters may have over-reacted to some of the things Burr followers have said in blogs. She's not knocking him in her ads, debates, or any place else.

"Don't you love it when Kasha and her family get on here. :) I can't wait for this election to be over with."

as I've stated on here mucho times I'm ready for it to be over too. Just wanted to stay I am not a relative of Kasha. Have never met her personally. No relation to their business in any way. No connection.
The only connection I have is that I appreciate the stand Kasha takes. I appreciate the fact that she has said NOTHING negative about Mr. Burr. Thanks Kasha

There are a lot of posts on here from Gene Burr's wife and it is disturbing what Gene & his wife are slinking to in this election. He is a relative of mine (distant cousin) and I am a registered democrat and I will be voting against him based on the fact that I know Kasha professionally and she is in no way rude or doing any of the things being said- however I have be barraged with phone calls from Burr's camp saying negative things about Kasha's voting record that I looked up myself to see if true and it is pure slander. I thought that knowing Gene he would run with integrity and it is embarassing that this side has come out.

Anonymous said...

I too am ready for it to be over. Too many lies about Kasha, its a shame that people think that is what you want to hear. BTW...not a relative either- knew her from school (didn't even hang around her alot- but know she is better than being protrayed)- it earned her my vote.

Anonymous said...

As a lifelong Democrat, it saddens me to say that I will be voting Republican also, based on the way Mr. Burr and his wife have conducted themselves in this campaign. Is that what it comes down to... winning at any cost? Shame on you Mr and Mrs Burr. You have lost my vote.
