I don't get this

Why would the Ark City City Commission put a sales tax initiative on the ballot for street repair and then NOT promote/educate voters about the need for it?

The hospital sales tax is overshadowing the street tax, which is why I thought it wasn't wise to put both on the ballot at the same time, if indeed commissioners think both are important.

I'll be mighty shocked if BOTH are approved. Seems remote that voters will vote for two tax increases at once

They are stupid if they think we will vote for TWO tax increases in these trying economic times.

Well maybe we could do both, that way while I am riding in the ambulance to the new hospital we won't hit a pothole that would throw me from the bed.

I think one could argue that the commission has gone along with the energy created by the hospital marketing and sales tax initiative campaign teams. They have a polished presentation and an army of advocates beating the brushes and rounding up votes. The hospital Board of Trustees owns this proposal.

The city commission owns the traffic way improvement tax initiative. It is obvious they had not realized the depth of planning and preparation required to promote and gain support. Even ha they used the school district model, they would have comprehended the value of a community based advocacy team. The School Bd. or the administration did not sell the Bond election, a team of citizen advocates did.

To do that you cannot operate in the "I don't care what people say or think" mode. And, you cannot create antipathy with a plethora of trite ordinances that polarize and arm people against you - windows, cats and dogs, front lawn parking, or lampooning tax paying citizens.

No one is pushing the traffic way sales tax because the commission owns it and they have holed up in an ivory tower pushing edicts out the window to splatter into the moat below them. They need PR and another year to be successful unless it is at the expense of the hospital. Coaching would have told them to prioritize and use the same marketing team to sell both initiatives one year apart.

That would appear as progressive leadership. This dual sales tax proposal just looks like a little child getting sick in the middle of the living room floor.

Charles is disgruntled because he isn't the mayor and our current mayor is white.
