Oops -- what happened that Gene didn't declare his? That doesn't make him look very efficient

Now I see on the KSOK site that Gene won't be attending the candidate forum tomorrow night. What's up with him? Well, his weak showing is all the better for the BEST candidate -- Kasha Kelley!

I am interested to know what Field Works in Washington DC did to help Greta. She spent $20k with them. One of the things their website says is that they work every angle for their candidates. Their tactics and strategies include vote by mail, early voting, voter registration and phone campaigns. I wonder if they are the ones Greta paid to do that push poll for her. I wonder if they are also the reason why we have such a large number of absentee ballots this time around in Cowley County. Did this shadowy group determine this was the best way for her to win?

Burr had $18k donated to him by the Dems for all the glossy postcards I guess, and money from
phil Ruffin. It's there, you just missed it Dave.

I see that people want to comment and make a fuss that Gene was there, No one has said a word about Abrams being there? He's a newbie... But that's okay, Right? He's on YOUR side so it's fine. Give me a break!

One thing that I've noticed, Is that Kasha's supporters are very nasty and rude people. Very un-kind to fellow people and it paints Kasha in a horrid light. Do anything to win right? They always have something snarky and rude to say and can't just stop and take a moment and remember there are more important things in life than being nasty and rude to someone who doesn't share their view.

I'm also getting sick of her being shoved in my face. Really... That many times in the paper? On almost every page 2 ADS? Did any of you stop and think that's the reason people get turned off from her?

I'm not for sure why he won't be there, I was shocked when I saw that... There has to be a good reason why he won't be there. It was okay when Kasha didn't show up to THREE forums, But he doesn't attend one and we blow a cork. Hmmm kettle! Hope everything is okay with him, Hopefully he just had already committed plans.

sounds like a story to me :-)

About missing forums ....

Gene missed the Wellington forum and the 'on the air' session with KACY. Seems he's missed others, but those are the two I'm sure of.

It wasn't good that Kasha missed the ACHS forum, but she was away at a conference that had been planned months before. She let the contacts at ACHS know that before they set the date. Did they just not want her there? At least she was courteous enough to ask a like-minded person to fill in for her. (I realize some of you didn't like that, but it is standard procedure for political debates/forums.)

What do you mean Abrams wasn't there? I looked at all the reports, including his, shortly after David posted them. Don't know where Gene's is -- didn't see it.

Sorry- The Abrams stuff on this thread...

I mean't to post it on the parade one, Not this thread. What I was saying was that Abrams was at the parade and no one has made a stink about that and he's a newbie- But everyone is making a stink about Gene being there.

How is Abrams a newbie? He has been an elected State official for 14 years for Ark City. Local official before that. What is he new to?

"I'm also getting sick of her being shoved in my face. Really... That many times in the paper? On almost every page 2 ADS?"

Sorry you feel that way. I'm not voting for Mr. Burr. I've seen lots of his advertising, and I haven't felt he was "shoved in my face". I figured he's just doing what any candidate does hoping to get elected. Try & get your name out there. Candidates do have pay for those ads. Just a thought.

Gene simply doesn't want to appear in public where he will have to go head to head against Kasha. He just doesn't come off very well is all. Not everyone is talented that way. Dave: when are you going to do an expose story about Gene claiming to be a common man? That's a good one!

Gene has a previous engagement in Topeka that he wasn't able to reschedule, therefore he is unable to attend the forum.

HE IS NEW TO THE OFFICE IN WHICH HE IS RUNNING FOR. HOW DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT? THE POSTER MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEY MEAN'T TO POST THAT COMMENT ON THE PARADE POST.

I apologize that I didn't understand the poster's point that Mr. Abrams is newbie. It just seemed to me that according to the rules, elected officials were allowed into the parade, as elected officials. Abrams like Burr didn't have any thing on him that stated Abrams 4 Senate during the parade. My thought was that he was allowed in the parade as a state official. I am glad that Gene was allowed in the parade, nothing wrong with allowing people to see candidates.

Darn I was looking forward to hearing Burr on the radio. I have heard from so many people how he has trouble getting his point across, but I was hoping to be able to judge for myself.

Wonder how Kasha's going to spin her "gasoline giveaway" as a campaign expense? Sounds like vote buying to me....

Where's the story on the legitimacy of that tactic?

Anonymous said...

Curious, don't be a sore loser.

Anonymous said...

Geez. Am I the only one not afraid to call and ask her a question? I called for you Curious. No need for spin, she had cleared it through the state's ethics people.

Anonymous said...

Vote buying? Try $18k in kind from the Ds.

Anonymous said...

I also didn't think it was very ethical of her to do the gas giveaway. She was indeed buying votes and it's a shame that she can't win on her own record, But by giving away candy bars, putting up so many billboards and bribing people to vote by doing a gas giveaway. I see the real Kasha and she doesn't represent me.

Anonymous said...

Curious, why are you so negative and looking for a snake under every rock? Guess you just can't recognize an ethical person when you see her. She just happens to be a darn good promoter (runs in her family - clear back to her grandfather)AND she does good things for her district!

Anonymous said...

Good promoter does not always mean ethical.....Don King for example.....anyway on to what i came here to ask

I am not trying to promote or bring a dark light on anyone. These are just questions I have looking at these campaign statements. I read the paper daily. I see who has the adds in there. Gene Burr had several lines itemized out for payment for newspaper adds. Greta Goodwin had one line to the traveler and one line to the Courier that I saw. The Traveler was 96.20 and the Courier was 65.00. I know she has got a hell of a lot more advertising than that. Where are the other itemized amounts put in? Kasha Kelley also has had a ton of newspaper advertising, especially as of late. The form she turned in did not have much at all itemized out. There was no itemization for the Traveler given. For being a big supporter of transparency, the only things other than checks to herself she listed was payments for yard signs and a website. The rest was all either payments to 1st intermark (where she is ceo) or directly to herself with most of those being listed under a general description of "Campaign Expenses". Am I missing a listed description of these expenses like the others are doing? I would also like to add.....what a waste of money. I really think there should be a cap on this stuff. 50k is insane. You know all that money comes with promises. We could solve the state and national debt if we taxed this money if they gains above a certain amount. The presidential race funds are out of hand.

Speaking of newspaper ads, I would like to comment on Goodwin's ad. I'm a little put off by her telling me how important she is. "Writes and carries important bills...major force...powerful committees ...highly respected..." These are the kinds of things that one shouldn't say. It's a bit egotistical.

Anonymous said...

Neither Kasha's or Greta's ads in the Traveler had run before the accounting. Bet they'll show up on the final report.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of advertising, I really dislike the large Kelley stickers on the new lamp posts downtown. Who gets to scrape those off Nov. 5th?

Anonymous said...

There was only one sticker and it's already scraped off. I saw Kelley's husband doing it the other day. Too bad it happened in the first place, but thank you for being responsible and taking it down.
