Property taxes

This story in the Eagle showed the Sedgwick County property owners don't have that high of a tax burden compare to the rest of the country, and even the rest of Kansas. You hear a lot of complaints about property taxes in Kansas, and Cowley County, especially as it compare to Oklahoma. Unfortunately this study did not include counties with populations under 60,000. It did show that Kansas ranks 26 in terms of property tax burden, which is right in the middle, which doesn't sound too out of line.

In our household, due to recent layoff, we are at 4.2% of our income for real estate tax. The study you cite does not include any 'property' tax figures for automobiles-a substantial figure when compared to other states!

I predict that our taxes will increase on the city's portion to help offset the fiscal irresponsibility of city hall's spending!!

Why is it that we pay so much higher taxes than Oklahoma? They seem to be getting along just fine with what they are taking in, so why does Kansas need so much more?
