Cocaine blues
Whatever the truth, this story doesn't make the ACPD look too good. Several questions linger, including why the county attorney would decide to file charges knowing the gaps in police work would be difficult to explain. And, why it can take so long to get results on possible illegal substances. On the first, I suppose Chris Smith believed the police and thought the suspect should be prosecuted despite the mistake, which makes sense. On the second, I have no idea. But I would think the system would want to speed things up to make sure drug crimes are dealt with swiftly.

What you need to ask yourself is how a judge could sign an arrest warrant when there was no way of having probable cause that she was the one who left the drugs in the car. Do our judges just sign anything the police put in front of them?
The fact that the "new" patrolman didn't find the substance until after the defendant rode in the car is irrelevant. If he didn't see the defendant put the substance in the car they have no case. It could have already been there and just not seen. The Chief is still tainted by the crash tax fiasco and now this???
People forget, or just don't know, that the Chief answers to a city manager and commission, all of whom were responsible for giving the 'okay'on the crash tax! They ridicule the Chief for wanting to spend a few thousand on weapons, while they squander HUNDREDS of thousands on unneeded equipment and unlimited overtime for the water and wastewater departments
the article in new cow said that they found the cocaine after she had been in the car, therefore probable cause was established. was it hers? time will tell. but to automatically assume that the cops are at fault here is assinine. remember that they are the ones that keep us safe, and they are human, not perfect.

you dont have to see anyone plant anything. the facts are that she was the last prisoner in the car and the coke was there after she was in the car. to say that you have to see someone committ a crime in order to have a case is flawed. when someone gets murdered or raped, no one else sees it but the victim. when someone breaks into a house and steals personal property, no one sees that. If the cops were wrong, then so be it, but letts not start blaming the good guys just yet.
