Looks like the 1 cent state sales tax is going to happen. State senate passed it yesterday and even anti-tax lawmakers are saying the votes to pass in House are there.
Mixed feelings myself. Sales tax is already pretty high locally with the 1 cent increase last year. But the cuts to schools, medicaid, prisons, etc.. are also damaging. This seems to strike a decent balance instead of tipping too far in one direction.

If we had any real leadership in Topeka, they would have eliminated all of the existing sales tax exemptions for businesses instead of increasing the sales tax. This action would have more than balanced state’s budget and would have allowed Counties and Cities to lower property taxes.
Sales tax is already to high. We need to eliminate all the tax exemptions like a previous poster mentioned. No as far as funding things like prisons and schools, the state just needs to learn how to handle the budget more effectively.
They should raise the water rates here too, as they are far too low as it is. Then maybe Charge more for trash collection.
Anyone who thinks the answer is to raise taxes obviously never learns. We will raise them now, maybe get bye for a yr. or two then just somehow we magically have another deficit. Taxes only seem to increase. I never hear of them dropping especially in large amounts. If i give you a hundred you need 2 hundred, if I give you 2 you need 3. However if you know you only have 50 bucks and there will not be anymore, then somehow you miraculously make it work. I say we turn our back on this crap cause it will never end as long as we keep going along with it. You can also cry do it for the children all you want but you can clearly see what kind of children America is pumping out latley. Its mostly the unemployed and eneducated pumping out kids and in large numbers. What an bad recipe.
