Abrams taxes, push poll

Abrams line of attack in a Mulvane News ad is taxes and spending. He's made the "No tax increase" pledge and attacks Goodwin for being a free-spender as the state budget has grown.

Also today, we got a call from a business person who said they had been "push polled" on the Abrams Goodwin race. The caller asked questions like "do you support Goodwin's opposition to teaching students moral values, or do you support Steve Abrams support of teaching students moral values."

A push poll, I think, is when the caller acts like a neutral pollster put slants questions in favor of a candidate.

The business person said the caller would not ID themselves and he did not record the call.

Anyone else getting these?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. People know who they want to vote for.

I think the Democrats and the Republicans are both just as bad on this one. Everyone wants their person to win. Thankfully, we do not elect people by polls. It's insane, polls, polls, polls.
Just someone trying to sway public opinion.

I'm glad that when election day comes, the only thing that matters is who is alone in the booth. That's what counts.

I got one last night for the Kelley/Burr race. The caller asked if I was famiiar with either name, and whether I had a good or bad opinion of each. She also named a list of many hot topics and asked which one was most important to me as a voter. She then asked which I would vote for if the election was held today. It really didn't seemed biased toward one candidate or the other.

I don't see how the question posed is slanted towards either one. Are you refering to the use of the words opposition and support?

The fact of the matter is, this race pits to extremely opposite candidates during a very critical time in our nation and our economy.

This horrible economy is, in large part, the product of never-ending government taxes and government intervention. Abrams seems to be a proven business man and has agreed to "no tax increase". As a fellow taxpayer, I have had enough of the taxes. Dude gets my vote.

He gets my vote, too. Let's vote in people who pledge to keep taxes down!

I just got a call from his campaign last night and it was a push poll. The thing I thought of afterwards was that I gave my honest responses to the automated machine and now Mr. Abrams and his team have my phone number. Perhaps the next thing that will happen is the "Creation Museum" people will knock on my door and try to force me to believe the way they do.....that the stories in Genesis are literally true rather than in parable.

I got a message on my answering machine about a brief political survey. About the state budget growing? How's this when I kept hearing the state was making budget cuts, so AC had to make budget cuts? Or did I totally misunderstand what I read?

On moral values, we shouldn't have to have schools teaching our kids, but guess what folks, since alot of parents quit teaching them, it seems that it is up to the schools to do everything anymore.

I'm taxed to death as it is. Think I'm gonna vote for someone who says "elect me, I'll raise your taxes!".

No, thank you.

I was called and asked a few questions last night, but it was a recording. They asked if the election were held today, would I vote for Abrams. They also asked a few others, but then the end said it was paid for my Abrams.

That's a low blow. They haven't "forced" anyone to do anything. If you want to try & slam
then at least hit above the belt.

Do you not remember what Abrams attempted to do twice while on the State School Board? He was heavily funded by these people, who have happened to establish a "Creationists Museum." They were trying to "force" all public school kids to listen to their literal interpretation of the creation stories in Genesis and then later marketed it as "Intelligent Design."

My point is, I don't feel comforatble with people who ignore the God given gift of intelligence, logic, and reason having my phone number and knowing that I do not support the Abrams effort.

That is simply not true. Did you get your information first hand by sitting in on the BOE meetings, or did you get your information like most people from the news reports? Have you personally talked or emailed Dr. Abrams? I have. He has always been straightforward and honest with me. It seems to me that the news has taken bits of the truth instead reporting the entire truth.

Basically, Dr. Abrams was not trying to "force" creationism or ID on anybody. The conservatives on the board were looking to deemphasize evolution on the state assessments and see that evolution is called what it is-- "a theory".

Wow! It's amazing how people of your political ilk are very quick to state that the media is a "lying" institution.

To answer your question, no, I did not attend any state BOE meetings in Topeka. I did however attend one of the public forums in Derby three or four years ago. I did write Mr. Abrams a very detailed letter explaining why the movement he was pushing did not belong in the science classroom as well as why it is foolish to look at the creation stories in Genesis (all four of them) as "literal," when even the Bible tells you it is in parable. I got no response. Also, public school is a place to teach, study, and learn about physical truths, not spiritual ones. Any attempt to try to mingle the two goes directly against the original idea of this country. I followed the issue quite closely.

To try to make a statement that since I didn't attend a BOE meeting, I don't know what I'm talking about is just as foolish as trying to "witness" the Christian belief system in public schools.

Back to my point (which you like to stray away from)... I don't like the idea of having a politician (of any affiliation) having my phone number. According to caller ID, it came from northern Virginia. Now that I've said I will not be supporting Mr. Abrams, it is associated with my phone number. I'm sure these stats are shared with other republican sources and so on. Republicans (as well as Dems) are shady people, who knows what will happen with the info...

I also received a very simple automated message. Asked, "Would I vote for Steve Abrams for Senate." "Would I vote for Kasha Kelly for Senate." The end of the message stated paid for by Dr. Steve Abrams for Senate.

The push poll calls my husband and I received (on our home phone and both of our cell phones) about the Kelley-Burr race did not push one candidate or another. Like it or not, polls are part of this whole dismaying political process. Frankly, I've experienced more truthfullness from the Republican candidates than from the Dems.

And, about taxes -- ANYONE who pledges to keep taxes down gets my vote! It just so happens that its usually the Republicans that are for lower taxes --- and for less government intrusion in our lives all 'round!
