McCain's camp has been fueling hatred and fear with the "guilt by association" card since he's getting his clock cleaned in the polls right now.
But he finally stood up to some of the nastiness his own campaign has been breeding. This below is from the Time Magazine blog by Anna Marie Cox, who was at McCain's Minnoseta rally today
...he (McCain) just snatched the microphone out the hands of a woman who began her question with, "I'm scared of Barack Obama... he's an Arab terrorist..."
"No, no ma'am," he interrupted. "He's a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements."

I am glad that he did this but I fear it's too late.
He has been irresponsible in running his campaign and he will be equally irresponsible as our President.
What is the election law concerning signage? I notice a lot or Burr signs on the right of way in front of places that I KNOW did not allow him to post them. Going West on Radio Lane. Some places even have Kelley signs in the yard, but a Burr sign out by the street. Is that legal for him to put them in the right of way without asking?? Thought you might know. Seems like a shady way of doing things. It makes it look like he in endorsed by places and people that have no wish to endorse him.
He sowed the seeds himself.
The comments that Palin has been making about palling around with terrorists was meant to connect Obama with the terrorists that everyone has in mind today. It preyed on everybody's laziness and willingness to accept the "sound bite" as truth without actually checking it out.
There is a nutcase core of the republicans that has been radicalized recently by the talk show folks.
It is nothing new. During the last administration, when it looked like there was serious competition from Hillary, they were spreading rumors that she was a murderer, etc. This radicalization was started by George W Bush as an attack on Bill Clinton, as a way to get elected, but has taken on a life of its own.
But as it is the party of unintended consequences, so this hard core that was meant to give solid political support for McCain is now presenting at the political meetings as McCain supporters.
If McCain had no integrity, he would just let it happen. But he apparently can't. I respect him for that. It must be really hard, knowing what is in the balance.
But on the other hand, he might not have started it, but he sort of did. It was his campaign that associated Obama with terrorists, some of his campaign introductions that referred to "Hussein" Obama, and attacking Obama on claims of dishonesty.
Now, it seems that the chickens have come home to roost.
So now that he has distanced himself from the republican core's rhetoric, he is distancing himself from many of the republican votes.
If there is anything that is unfair about this campaign, this is it, but it is his own rope he is tying himself up with.
It's too bad. Because of his integrity, he is eliminating republican votes because he won't support the radicalization that elected George W Bush. Coat tails!? Legacy.
Interesting that his integrity has returned...after weeks of disappearance. As I've said many times before on this forum...he was a better man six months ago.
Perhaps his mother reminded him of that.
Glad to see his conscience at work.
Anonymous #1: Permission was granted.
Curious,
Permission was NOT granted. I know it for a fact.
Talk about a free pass. Can't beleive that no one took that Sheriff or deputy or whatever to task for appearing while in uniform. It is pretty much standard code across the nation that no individual touting a uniform or other identifier of their level of government shall make a public appearance endorsing any political candidate.
Even if he was off duty, he should not have appeared in uniform. It could be taken that he would abuse the authority of his office to the advantage of his political affections and against anyone who opted to support the opposition.
I do know it is the employee handbook in AC, Winfield and most Kansas communities as the template is in a publication that lists sample ordinances for Kansas communities.

Hey David,
To change the subject a bit. (if you don't mind)
I receieved a big glossy postcard from Greta Goodwin Saturday. Very nice card. BUT. It says, and I quote:
"(1) Brought transparency to government spending by allowing Kansas voters to view state budget information.
(2) Has made our state safer by giving law enforcement the authority to intervene earlier in cases that are identified as potential stalking threats"
Everyone knows that these are issues that Mrs. Goodwin fought against. Kasha was the one who fought to get these initiatives passed. Even fighting Mrs. Goodwin to get it done, and now Mrs. Goodwin takes the credit. WOW! Talk about gall. Anyway thanks, Kasha
Perhaps Mrs. Goodwin should print some of HER OWN accomplishments on her mailouts.
I know this is a liberal blog, and most on here support Greta no matter how much she twists the facts, so, have at me.
someone really has beef with Burr. Why else do they feel the need to keep going on ALL the blogs. Get a life.
It's what's for dinner!
To, "I believe everything I read"
-- if you've got a copy of that glossy flier, I'd love to see it. Drop it by the Traveler, if you can. Thanks

Greta Goodwin provides a strong voice for the people of the 32nd District. As our State Senator, Greta Goodwin has:
(1)Brought transparency to government spending by allowing Kansas voters to view state budget information;
(2)Advocated insurance reforms giving Kansas consumers access to better, more affordable health care;
(3)Has made our state safer by giving law enforcement the authority to intervene earlier in cases that are identified as potential stalking threats;
(4)Prevented the loss of Kansas jobs and supported legislation that shifted tax loads from Kansas based businesses to out-of-state corporations doing business in Kansas
Got one myself, on Saturday.
Do you want mine too?
SBW
Ooooops! Forgot, we threw ours out with the garbage this weekend!
SBW
SBW,
Yeah, I'd love to see it. Any political material I invite folks to send our way
Thanks
-David

I agree. A really interesting story line.
