Both chambers in the state Legislature have passed a strict ban on smoking in buildings open to the public. The days of smoking in bars and restaurants in Kansas are gone, starting this summer.
Yea
Neither local elected official, Kelley nor Abrams, supported this bill. Although Kelley said she supports a ban, but no this one. Read the story to find out why.
Ark City will not have to vote on the issue, unless they want to impose more strict rule against smoking.

This is good news.
LOL... Kelley trying to have it both ways! Does she not know that the Kansas State Smoking ban is the exact same law that is in all others states with a ban? Our ban has the exact same exemptions as all the others such as private homes, casinos, certain hotel rooms, adult-care homes, certain long-term care facilities, tobacco shops, and certain private clubs.
In Kansas, the Casinos just will happen to be owned by the State, in the others, they are private owners. She tries to make it sound like it's some kind of conspiracy to not have to play by the rules by the State (heavily Republican dominated State I will add).
I also think it's funny when she complains about how "things should be done..." or how the state spends too much money. Does she not also realize that her own party is the one that controls the budget, spending, and basically everything else except the "veto?"
Haaaa... what a joke.
Kasha has done a great job for our State. I hope she doesn't pay attention to the liberal haters. If they want something different, they should have got more of their liberal friends to put down their peace signs and bongs and go vote vote.
do we have to put down our bongs just to vote ? thats not fair

Is that you Kasha??? No, it would be accurate to say, "Amused by the hypocrisy."
The superlatives, at times, flow too freely.
I cannot find anything that would factually support the assertion that Kasha has done a "great" job.
I think she has done some good things (of course that means nothing either since I remain anonymous). I do think she has built her resume, so far, on low hanging fruit and no brainer type issues.
However, she is an ivory tower Representative. She speaks, votes and leads with the input of a very few. She does not want to hear from different thinking people preferring to allow friends like ol' February 26, 2010 8:03 AM to snipe at outside thinkers instead of accepting the challenge to build government that reflects the interests of all Kansans.
She even has opted to acknowledge and integrate into her remarks that she does not return calls, reply to emails or get out and meet with her constituents - other than those who passionately support her and give her marching orders.
She campaigned saying that she had the time to lead. The she leads by campaigning that she hasn't the time to fulfill the expectations.
What better microcosmic illustration of that than Saturday. Yes, I applaud that the Town Hall was held. Still, of the 2hour session, Rep Kelly consumed nearly 60% of the speaker minutes and only asked if "we understood her presentation."
It was not that profound and one could assume that an audience on a Saturday morning already had some base knowledge of her material. Point being, her exhaustive dissertation and the follow up by the Senator left absolutely no time (according to the 10-12 promotional) for the two to "HEAR" from any constituents.
I suppose she will hear from her fan club how well she did and they will comfort themselves in the size of the audience assuming that all were supporters since there were no voiced criticisms.
When she becomes a listener and comprehensive communicator, there is the potential to do a "great” job. For now, the current assessment is, she's done a few good things and serves with the best of intentions.
no, far from it. i'm not kasha. never met her or you. i just know people. your writing is brimming with jealousy. (your 2nd post proves it) that's what i know. i could care less about this smoking issue. i don't smoke. just read your post &...jealous.
"...preferring to allow friends like ol' February 26, 2010 8:03 AM to snipe at outside thinkers..."

Don't be daft. I wrote that post, and don't know her on a personal basis. She didn't call me up out of the blue and ask me to come on here and point out your obvious contempt for conservative values and your jealousy.
Someone else noticed it too it seems, so I must not be far off the mark.
That is these United States of America.
Nothing that takes place resembles the expectant dialog of the leader of free nations.
Anyone who does not kowtow to the person of your preference has to be anti "whatever partisan affiliation" or, as more adolescently stated, jealous.
What ever happened to the society founded on the right to disagree. Why is it so beyond understanding to simply comprehend that some people disapprove.
You argue there is nothing personal in your defense of the Honorable Representative. Still you delude yourself into thinking that anyone who dissents has to have some personal vendetta.
People have criticized school saying they dummy down curriculum to meet state adn federal measures for success. I think the reality is the schools are trying to prepare students for a society where intelligent debate no longer exists. It has been replaced with pre-pubescent insults, name calling and sticking of fingers in ears to drown out someone who may actually have a valid, though differing opinion.
Ok, you won me over. Kelly for Queen of the world. Now is that less jealous? Is that enough pandering to satisfy? Should we go for Universe and/or Solar System. Would that make satisfactory obeisance?
Oh yeah, this was about the smoking ban. Go Kansas! It's your birthday. Go party! Like it's you birthday!!!
It is evident that you don't know me and it looks like your a poor reader if you got that from my post. Read the article I commented on, retain what you read, let it sink in. It's hypocrisy. She complains about the State government and it's her own party that runs things. That is the definition of hypocrisy. Look it up if you don't believe me.
It is not hypocrisy to speak out against something you feel is wrong, no matter WHO is doing it. I'm glad to have representatives that don't simply follow the will of others, but listen to the people.

And there too is my point. She spent two hours with over 300 people. She scolded the audience in attendance because of those who were not. "I am very disappointed with this audience..." she says.
Does that mean those of us who came out were insignificant to her. As far as listening, when she wasn't speaking the only people she heard from was Snell, Abrams anda few of her legislative friends who opted to stop in.
Several times she paused to allow other legislators to speak. at 11:44, Senator Abrams concluded.
Over 200 people had 15 minutes to be heard. That is not clinical listening to the people! That's not a town hall. That's a political speech. On Saturday she was our State MisRepresentative.
She misrepresented the politcal rally as a town hall. I know a town hall meeting and that was not a town hall meeting.
So, I still say she leads with a passion. She has a genuine heart and is a bit ideological. But, she hasn't done a "great job" just yet.
I would even vote for her if tomorrow were election day because she genuinely wants to lead and does have a fiscal conscience. But she hasn't done a great job.
I thought Kelley was elected to vote what WE want not what SHE wants. I guess I was wrong.....won't make that mistake again.
